First time playing with a chrony!

I finally got a chrony and found time to use it. I've had a box of test loads made up for my M12 in .223 for close to six months now just waiting for me to get a chrony and get out there. I had an interesting time to say the least.

I loaded them up in .2gr increments using varget for powder and 75 Amax and 77SMKs. I shot a 5 shot group with my previous go to load, the results were surprising to say the least. 243fps deviation! Holy hell!

I went through the Amax loads first. The best ones had a deviation of 29fps and 32fps, the lighter load produced a 1.45" five shot group at 300m. These two groups had very little vertical, .580" and .420" at 300m. These averaged 2850fps from my 9 twist 26" factory barrel. These are the first groups I have ever shot under a minute. I'm ecstatic to say the least! And it was fairly windy today too.

The SMK loads had a lower velocity deviation. The best ones here must have been two separate nodes. They were .4 grains apart, but averaged close to the same velocity. One was 14fps deviation, the other 17fps. Both right around 2740fps. But, they only produced about 2.5" groups at 300m. Guess mine must be one of the ones that likes the 75 Amax! Good thing too I have a pile of them to shoot.

Also the first time shooting this rifle with the Tacpro cheek rest installed. Thanks Mystic! It was a very nice add on.

I've been close to MOA with my No4T a couple times before and floated just above it fairly regularly with the M12 but up until now I've never grouped in under it. Today was a great learning experience, now I'm hooked on this quest for precision!

Sorry about the gross target. I only had a few hours to play so I simply circled the groups as they were shot and then covered them with the next layer of paper and carried on.

What are you using to weigh your powder?

A good 2 or even 3 decimal place scale will make all the difference on your quest to single digit ES.
 
Will do from now on. Seems like a few kernels doesn't read any different on it. I bet it's extra crucial in a small case like this. Still pretty happy with these results for a first crack at it. Next time out I'll do 4 5rd groups of each load near the sweet spot and see how repeatable each load is.

Mine has been pretty repeatable but when it stops trickling and indicates that it's done often up to 0.4 grains of powder can trickle out. If I don't wait until the display is visible again I won't know exactly how much powder it has dispensed.

Double checking on a beam scale shows not very accurate results. Even with a $1** electronic scale, it still isn't better than good old gravity. I don't put much trust in any electric scale unless it's extremely expensive.

The Chargemaster rates near, if not the best in most measurement / dispensing tests, but it's still not as accurate as I'd like. Hence the double weighing every charge. Often I set it up for .1 gr less and just trickle every load to the right amount. That's the fastest way of doing it for me.

And yes, it'll say dispensed X amount, but often wait a few seconds and the true reading comes out of over charges. Mine has had the reprogram and Mcdicks straw.
 
Mine hasn't been reprogrammed but has the straw trick. I always wait until it shows the actual weight before loading it. Wouldn't hurt to double check on a beam and they are cheap.

I love my chargemaster, for speed not accuracy. I use it for stage one measuring, then followed up with a re-weigh on my GemPro. I have not tweaked the software of the chargemaster yet, but it is often out +-.7gr with CFE223 with a target charge of 47gr.

My gempro destroyed my verticals. My chargemaster speed up the reloading process and makes it more fun and less tedious.

I use the same method, set the chargemaster for 0.1gr under my desired charge weight and then trickle up on the GemPro scale, since doin this my vertical at long range has really tightened up.
