First time reloading, already wrecked my Die

No need to cut the case off. As mentioned before loosen the locking nut on top of the die. Put some lubein the case mouth. now run the die down until the stem of the ejector rod is sticking up through the top of the die. tighten the locking nut with two wrenches. try to lower the die. It should pull the expander ball/ejector rod up. If not repeat process but instead of tightening the locking nut clamp the top of the ejector rod with a pair of vice grips, you should now be able to withdraw the rod. In the future lube the inside of the necks. I like using the Hornady spray lube "One Shot" gets the inside and outside lubed nicley.

RePete Please read the post again,:) sure he was asking for 300WM loads
76.0 gr is one grain below maximum in the Lyman,77.0, Hornady 76.0.75.5 in Nosler all with 180gr bullets

Good to see a new reloader first get some cheaper bullets. The ones you have are high price hunting bullets.Use the cheaper ones to find out what your gun likes first.Lymans load book. I've used standard primers with good results with both the powders you have.Used ?6.0 gr of RL22 in the 180 Noslers worked for me.

Hi, it isn't a matter of buying cheaper bullets as I want to use premium bullets, I have run into 3 grizzly bears since I moved here and I dont want to be using deer bullets when I face number 4. (I didn't have to shoot but got challenged once by a mean S.O.B). Anyhow, I just want some safe loads, not barn burners. These particular bullets were all that were available to me here in yellowknife locally, and I didn't want to go ordering from down south, only to end up using these bullets anyhow. (reloading supplies are scarce here in Yellowknife)
I also hunt in extreme climates here and It was suggested to me by a man here who is well known as a superior gunsmith and is the go to guy at the local sports store that for complete combustion at -40+ celcius, it is advised to use magnum primers for magnum loads. He said that it is more or less the norm it temps like we get here. I am not a newbie to shooting or hunting, just reloading and I dont particularly want to use beginner bullets on the size game up here. I shot a 1450 lb moose 3 years ago here and the 180 grain speer hot-cor bullet just disintegrated. I found 3 pieces but none over 20 grains in size. I want bonded or solid coppers. I just need hunting accuracy out of them, not competition paper accuracy. Thanks for your suggestions

300 Mag loads

Sgt.Rock Think there was so confuseion on the post about using cheaper bullets. I did not say to hunt with them, they would be used to see what you gun likes and for experimenting with col and different powder charges, etc.I hear you when you say that were you live restricts your choice of components and what is available to you. And the magnum primers are your best bet in -40. Have two 300 wm rem sendaro and sako and both like 180 accubonds with the RL22 Good luck

Just got back from the ice road up towards the diamond mines. Took a drive up there today, and low and behold, what walks out in front of me on one of the portages but 3 huge wolves. Luckily I had a wolf tag in the glove locker.
I got out slowly and they just froze in place. (mind you I had a box of Federal 180 speer hot-cor and a box of Winchester 180 gr soft points).
I chambered a round and 2 bolted into the trees, but 1 started trotting towards the truck. He got to about 25 yards and stopped. I lightly kicked the side of my truck and he turned sideways ........ Then boom!!!
Beautiful wolf in the back of the truck.
Then , elated and all, continued on through the portage and came upon 4 more wolves chowing down on a young Caribou. They scattered to the wind. I slowly continued on and 150 yards or so, I came into a small herd of caribou. Now I chambered my second round and scanned the herd on 3x power ( there is a male only clause now in our tags - so I was looking for vulva patches to cross them off my list. Every caribou was female. I said awww crap!! Drove another 100 yards then spotted a big bull and several younger bulls. Filled my 2 caribou tags with the 2 rounds left in my mag. Super day!!!!!!! Happy as a pig in SH*T.
Anyhow, I cant wait to get reloading, A friend is coming tomorrow afternoon to make sure I do it right. But at ranges like this, I might be well off just to keep using factory stuff. Every animal I got today was at 80 yards or much less

Use a Dremel or such and cut the case apart, then retrieve the de-capping rod, put the thing back in the die................and do the nut up TIGHT.

Or you can remove the decapping pin retaining nut from the die.
Put the die in the press, put the case with the decapping pin in the press and carefully run the case and decapping pin in the die,
and then replace the decapping retaining nut and tighten it with two wrenches. One on the die and one on the nut. Make sure it is snugged up firm it doesn't need excessive force.
The press will pull the case off the pin and out of the die.
When you do this make sure the decapping pin is NOT set too far down in the die so it hits the bottom of the case when you are resizing.
