First time seller on EE with questions

Yes , I misspoke , the extra charge I was referring to was Express Post 2 or 3 day delivery depending on location .

Canada post charges extra for signature on delivery as well .

EMT - 20-30 minute delivery, anywhere in Canada.

ok ok, I'm just bugging you now ;) no offense I know some people just don't like using the interweb for money transfers.

COD is great, I don't know more people don't like using it. Especially great for new sellers with low/zero trader rating.

I was trying to purchase an optic from someone last week on EE and offered to use COD. He didn't want to do that, says he doesn't want to risk losing a $700 optic (I have an excellent trader rating - he has ZERO), yet he wanted ME to send EMT and take all the risk. screw that, some people just don't think with their brains.

COD is fine. If it's a restricted purchase and the seller has a low trader rating, I ask them to initiate the transfer first, and once the transfer is complete I will send the EMT.

COD is ok, but not a guarantee by any means. You can not open the package to examine your purchase before paying for it. You must pay for it....and then you can open it and see if you got what you paid for. You will not get your money back if you're not happy...at least not from Canada Post.

it's a cooooold world, you never know ;) just minimizing the chance of getting burned.

When I have sold something , I photograph the Item as I am wrapping it and the finished package , then with buyer's address clearly marked . I email the pic's soon after the deal is done .

This may be a bit extreme but I have no complaints thus far about the process , only good comments back .

It's ok , a little ribbing among fellow gun nuts is perfectly normal .

You might want to start using the iTrader rating system with leaving and receiving feedback, since with all your transactions and advice on gun shipping you're still sitting at a "0" score.

COD was popular in the '80's for no credit cards or internet. I can remember buying stuff from SIR Mail Order via COD. These days it's an obsolete method really. I won't send an item to a buyer without receiving payment first and I expect the same as a buyer. When in doubt, look elsewhere. I've had phone conversations and checked previous posts, so far no problems. There's always certain risks in life but I've found gun owners to be a very honest bunch, much more so than the fools on eBay or Kijiji.

Hi, why you think COD is obsolete when it actually minimize the risk. What's the downside of COD method?

Downside?
-it costs the sender $7.25
-if the parcel isn't picked up or the buyer decides he doesn't want to take delivery, the sender pays return shipping
-the seller has to wait for Canada Post to send payment in the form of a Money Order (they say via Xpresspost, but I'd have a great distrust with processing times of this service)
-some of us don't live near our bank. This means a commute to deposit a Money Order since many businesses won't cash them due to theft and counterfeiting.
-and last but not least, especially in regard to gun deals, the limit is $1000.

Basically, it's a method for buyers who prefer phone orders, have no credit card and/or have a general distrust in the seller, which gets us back to the basics of "caveat emptor".

If I'm buying, it's only from those whio I feel I can trust. How I arrive at that decision is by reading old posts, description of the item, through email or PM, perhaps a phone call. If I feel they appear reluctant to divulge personal info, I walk away.

If I'm selling, I don't want the hassle of dealing with the CP counter employee who needs to read the manual on how to do a COD as they've never done one before. :)

Yes , I am a new bee here and have not sold a single item , I am in the process of making my first purchase from the EE . So my 0 rating on CGN is understandable.
I have sold on other web sites and through referrals , I came to CGN after learning about it and found it to be the Best of all the others because of the great forms and sharing of information and knowledge and it has the Best EE set up , this makes CGN the Best bar none .
