First time shooting boolits I casted myself

I think the ones who have a problem with boolits are just being pig headed. More likely they are from the hills since they are so set in their ways. Whats the big deal if enthusiasts call them something different?

Anyway back to the topic at hand. You should preheat your mold. The aluminum molds will work better hot but if too hot they don't drop the boolits well. You can also try pouring not directly in the hole but off to the side causing the lead to swirl in the cavity and fill it better.

im a green horn in the casting scene..but its a hoot to make up your own boolits;)..so far ive only made up a bunch for the m/l..
the first one i made up was just as exciting as the first reload i ever made up..
its a new high for sure when you sit back and admire your own handy work:D

Congrats, and welcome to the sand box!!!!!!

I'm still kinda new to this casting business. Only a few thousand rounds so far. Here's the best tip that I can give you that I've learned so far.

1. Preheat your Lee mould.. Once you've reached that magic point where the bullets (sorry, old school :) ) are comming out easy, they're either shinny, or lightly frosted, no wrinkles, DON'T STOP!!! To heck with the wife, kids, dog, neighbour, dinner, whatever. I know, this normally is the invisable alarm for your wife to call you to dinner. IGNORE IT!!!!!! :D Last week, I got to the magic point early. Wife called me for something........yea yea, I'm comming. An hour later, and several hundred 44mag bullets later, she was getting upset. Yea.....I'm kinda in the middle of something that I can't stop in the middle of. That's the most pollite f-off I can give anyone :D Kept going......probably got close to 1000 done before I finally decided that I needed a break. Just sized them tonight. I'll probably do one more BIG run, then go onto the .308 stuff.

Again, welcome to the "proud that I do it myself, but also proud to be a cheapskate" club :D
