So, I have shot before at the river once and it was fun!!! But on Staurday I went to the range and tried novice skeet/trap. You know what I mean!! Soooo fun. I was using my 20 gauge Mossberg Bantam (I am only 5' 3" and 115 lb) and I shot 4 rounds and I got 55 out of 100. I was pleased. It's so addictive I can't wait until next time!!! Any advise for a newbie?? I am debating on a 12 gauge but I am too poor. I shot my last round with a 12 and I thought I did alright. It was kinda heavy though....

You do not need a larger gun to break these targets just one that fits you well and you are use to, the best advice i was ever given was be smooth movement and follow through the target, both eyes open helps a lot.

You will probably get lot of advice so I am not going to add my .25, but curious, which you liked better? Skeet? or Trap?

I guess I have only done trap. I didn't understand the difference. Sorry. But I really loved it and I can't wait to go again. I am getting a 12 ga now too!! Yay me!!!! I am pretty sure I'm addicted!!!

Glad you had fun. Get a gas operated Semi auto 12 ga. With 1 oz loads and go have some more fun.

Here's the difference.

Skeet

The general opinion is that trap is easier to get on to than skeet, but once you have got a good idea of what you are doing, you can shoot a higher score in skeet.
The reason for this is that trap clays can fly at any angle within the parameter, whereas the skeet birds fly the same way every time, and are closer.
This is why we shoot four different gauges in skeet competition but the 12 gauge rules trap.
Not that I have not seen trap shot with 16's and 20's.

Myself, I prefer skeet to trap, others like shooting trap better.

As usual I agree with most of what Cat says. I have had more experience with trap but prefer skeet for practice, but I do not like skeet with squads of more than 3 people. The round seems to take too long to get my required quota of burnt powder.
