First time Svt-40 owner

Beautiful shooting gun. Not as reliable as sks though. Picky on ammo sometimes. My didn't like the very ammo it was supposedly designed to shoot no matter what gas setting. Hopefully you got a lucky one.

Funny mine likes Russian Milsurp ammo the best. Decently accurate, far better than my SKS, and once I got the gas dialled in, 1.5, it works like a dream. I still need to bed the barrel as it tends to climb as it gets hot but the first 3 rounds are really good for an old Russian made semi auto.

As someone looking to get an SKS, SVT-40 being easier to clean is news to me. I am worried about missing a spot when cleaning and ruining my gun.

SVT-40 is a breeze to clean and once you've done it a couple of times its super quick .But I can't wait until Canada ammo gets that bulk non corrosive 54r so I won't have to actually clean it every time.

The nice thing about cleaning an SVT 40 is that once the springs go flying you get motivated to clean and organize the entire basement.

Too bad they fluted the chambers ...as it messes up the brass for reloading, but I guess that wasn't a consideration in WW2.......Harold

I have been reloading for the SVT40 for quite a while now, just re-use the powder and bullets in PRVI brass cases and they eject without a mark on them, maybe the odd little dent in the middle of the case but they come out when resizing.
Not shooting corrosive ammo simplifies the cleaning a lot !

How come I never had flying springs. I seriously can't imagine how to make them fly. I suspect most ppl take rifle down following YouTube videos made by those who never read manual.

Wait, now it's called "The E² dual extraction" and considered as huge innovation by POF (Patriot Ordnance Factory) in their P415.

I'm new to SVT and have no problems with springs flying, that is they don't. My problem is with removing extractor - effing PITA. I can hardly find any instructions beyond "push extractor plunger down and then apply pressure on extractor this or that way and then if you lucky you will pull it out". I wonder if there is proper way to do it?

The extractor on a SVT-40 isn't something that was meant to be removed constantly, rather replaced when broken. I personally wouldn't fiddle with too much or you end up with broken parts.

I have a very good one, an excellent one, and a cranky old bugger with a ghost in it. All will string shots vertically. All three led all accuracy with a bayonet mounted. I will say that with a long bayonet on, there s virtually no recoil.

yup they hinted about it in one of their threads a while back.

I also love their non-corrosive x39 havent cleaned any of my X39 guns ever sine I started using it.

My one SVT 40 would always start off promising with the first 3 shots... Like under under 2" @100, but then the group will often walk vertically to like 6+".....
