Hi guys, it has been a while since i was on this forum and I am looking forward to going to my first gun show this weekend. It is possible that I might be buying something at the show either for my dad or for myself depending on what i can find. what i was wondering is what i should be looking for ect guns i would consider buying are surplus rifles, .410 gauge shotgun and lever actions. I know on the surplus that the rifling needs to be checked for frosting and pitting from corrosive ammo but past that what should i be looking at for a used gun?

For the 410's, any Savage Model 24 in various combos that you come across that are in good shape are worth snapping up. They're common guns... but the guys that have them in their safes don't seem to be willing to part with them...

I'm not an army surplus kind of guy so no comments from me there.

There are some great deals to be had on Winchester lever guns at those shows so they're worth keeping an eye out for.

What west250 said. I've made very few deals for firearms at gunshows, because most of the sellers seem to have strong emotional attachments to the gear they have for sale. I find that is frequently true of sellers on the CGN EE as well, though I've done a bit of buying and selling there ... sometimes thinking I maybe paid top dollar, but at least found what I was looking for. Anyway, whether you're buying or just looking, gunshows can be good fun.

I've never had much luck at the local shows.
I too have found that the prices are quite high.
A lot of the guys with tables don't really seem to want to sell anything, they just want to BS about them.

hhhmmm well this is all good to know, im kind of curious about a few different guns and i think it would be an educational day for me as there is still lots for me to learn about guns...i know how to shoot and be safe...but there always seems to be a million different calibers and models that i dont know and its always pretty much greek to me...something that has caught my eye recently is the cz858 looks like a fun non restricted alternative to the AR15

when i first started i wished i knew about the cz858 but i was new and thought i knew what i wanted. lots of money spent and then i got my cz and never looked back. im not a precision shooter by any means and thought what i was buying would be fun but they got old fast. have since done more research on the firearms i buy but still always put the cz in the bag for the cost of ammo and pure fun.

To the OP: If you go to a gun show, be prepared to become a life time addict! No Kidding! I've been going for yrs! I've become all most convulsive if for some reason that I must miss a local gun show! be for-warned, my friend! If you go, come-on over to my table, take a look, I ain't got noth'en there just for show, they are all for sale at fair market values, if ya want something for nothing, keep on walk'en, don't stop and no talk'en, please! I don't have give-a-way prices, but I'd prefer you take home what I have on the table, rather than me haul it home, so like I say, fair market prices. I don't have a huge bunch, I don't normally offer many, I was more of a buyer/collector/holder/hugger, but this time I'm downsizing my collection slowly and a little at a time, gonna be selling more and not likely buying anything at all. :( sad, but just happy to still be alive and at the show! My shows are numbered, I know!

Me too, it's a crazy addiction but fun as well.
I like to walk the whole thing then go back to what caught my eye, don't want to haggle if I think your price is high I won't even bother to stop.

Always been a great source for odd ball ammo, dies, brass that sort of thing.

Last gun show I went to cost me almost a g-note.
Then again, I spent that here in the last bunch of months.
What is life with out a little excitement aye? :p :D w:h:

Kinda like here in this forum:)some would say.
There are deals to be had, but you really need to know your firearms and the values.
That is what makes going to gun shows fun, finding that gun you have been looking for since high school all the more fun.
Just a thought and my opinions, others will differ.

Spend a couple hours looking for guns you think you might be interested in on the Equipment Exchange section of this site. More often then not gun show prices are out to lunch so it doesnt hurt to know the going rate beforehand. Deals can be had, just dont expect to save a bundle (ive seen guns selling for more then they are worth brand new).

I usually find a box or two of ammo worth buying at each show I attend, so keep an eye open for those as well.

My heart used to quicken on entering gun shows. Not interested any more. Now I have to be dragged there by my buddy and I go just 'cause there's a guy there selling powder and bullets for just a smidgen below what I can get them for a Wholesale Sports.

I'll go to the big one in the 'wack if I'm looking for something specific.

Like a Classic Lee Loader in 7x57 for example. Or even just the die part. That's the only thing I really need any more.

Anyone have one to spare?
