Looking to get a Clays shotgun and thought I better try Trap first. Good, clean, fun. Managed 17/25 and same for my pal. 16/25 on the 1st round. Still not sure if I want an Auto or an O/U. Both have their Pros and Cons. Like to get something for all 3 diciplines. So maybe a 28 inch but what? Don't want to spend more than $1500. Good used stuff is more but what about Fabarm O/Us. Pretty and a good selection here in Calgary. Look like quality. Thoughts???

Above all else get a gun that fits! A decent sporting model will do well for all the shooting sports.

Spending money on low end gear will result in you spending more in the long run. So try and get the best you can afford, which also helps with resale value

Semi or O/U is your choice. There will be more options in the semi category at your price range.

Good luck and enjoy the sport.

Don't be in a hurry and try everything you can lay your hands on. Most of us will let people shoot our guns. Fit is a very important consideration.

Pick your main clay game and then buy a gun for that purpose, then shoot it for the other games. A used gun in good condition is your best bet because if you buy it at a reasonable price you can sell it for something close to what you paid. If you get into shooting clays, your first gun sure won't be your last.

Look for quality as cheap isn't cheap in the long run.

Can't comment on the O/U vs auto choice. I like O/U, but there are lots of guys who like autos. There has been a movement to somewhat longer barrels and I've kind of gravitated to a 30 inch barrel. I use 34 inch in trap, but that is a single barrel gun. I'd like to try 32 inch in O/U sometime. Mark me x3 on fit as has been said here by others. I think it trumps everything else.

I like the idea of a more "advanced" semi auto, but I hate either picking up my shells or hitting other people with them. I also feel more regal with my O/U. Also, since its only a 2 shell sport (on the official games that is), why have a gun that holds 5+1 (unless its your hunting firearm as well)? 1 shell in 2 barrels with 2 different chokes suits me fine. Epps has some nice used Beretta's and Browning's that may fit into your budget.

I just finally picked up my first "skeet" gun, I didn't want to make the wrong choice so I shot my mossberg 935 for quite a while before making my decision. The guys at the range are usually very good about letting you try a model, I had something in my head for an O/U that I wanted but like the other guys stated here I found my browning cynergy fit the best. it is no where near the conventional O/U I thought I would get but fit is key. Keep an eye out on the EE and good luck.

Let us know what you go with.

Thanks!

Broke down and bought a Fabarm 30 inch Sporting today. More than I inationally wanted to spend, but, hey #### happens. Even tried it out at the Trap Range. Definitely need to get better. Nice gun though.

better visit the clun again and ask if you can try their guns! most gun clubs will have citory, beretta 600 series and semi auto. Every gun is perfect as long as it fits!
semi- O/U all works fine. O/U tends to have tad bit more recoil then semi but semi dont have duel choke ability... but then 1 choke usually work fine.
