First Time w G17, w/ Video Range Report!

Hi guys,

Since under your sage advice I bought the Glock 17 as my first pistol, I thought you might be interested in seeing how it performed today in my amateurish hands. Also, for any first time pistol shooters who are considering a glock, maybe there will be something worthwhile in here for you.

Some Further Details:

Ammo: Remington UMC 115 Gr. Metal Case

Mag 1: 25 yards
Mags 2-5: 10 yards

I think the failures to feed might have been a result of me not taking the magazines down and putting them back up when I bought the pistol, so that's my first step, but anyone having any suggestions as to why I'm getting jammed up, I'm all ears.

Glocks can be little more sensitive to limp wristing than other semi-autos. That can easily cause failures to feed.

Not sure why the misfeeds, could be a limp wristing issue. I Doubt it is the gun. My Glock 17 has only had 1 misfeed this year so far out of about 2800 rnds and after closer inspection it was determined it was an ammunition issue. ....and I can't wait to put more rounds through it soon! Ha, and Next time take 250 Rnds to the range.......5 times the fun!! :D
 
Thanks for the ideas. You're probably right; I was holding the gun pretty lightly. Will report back later and we'll see if another 50 rounds tomorrow or the next day changes things.

if i put that many rounds through a gun, it'll be my SKS =)
 
try taking a video of yourself shooting, that will give us better chance to let you know what you may be doing wrong, it will also give you a chance to see what you're doing from a different angle.
like so, I do this often, especially if I notice I'm having troubles doing something or I find my time on something is slow, practice practice practice

great advice. i would have done that today but that video was taken using my rotten cell so even standing it up against something seemed like more trouble than it was worth, and i was all alone. i'm trying to talk my buddy into coming out with me, so hopefully he caves and comes out and shoots tomorrow.

thanks.. hell ya get your buddy out, he shouldnt have to "cave in" he should be jumping with joy :)

the camera is a powerfull tool, try with something better tho :) your cell phone is crap :) hope to see a new one soon.

I've had FTFeed in a case when my noob friend didn't fully insert the mag. You got to insert those factory 10 rounders with authority; especially when they're new.

I don't think it's limp wristing, it mostly cause stovepipes and ejection issues which you don't suffer...
 
I'm gonna share the same advise my welding instructor did with me "hold your stinger like you're holding your ####" in this case your glock17!! Oh and what's with this zombie BS??? That's all I hear is zombie this and zombie that, you are watching way to many movies/tv are you even stable enough to own that new glock???

You need to lock your wrist, and have a firm grip on the gun!

This happens almost every time I bring someone new out to the range, especially with some lighter loads!

lol, my first time at a range, i went thru 50 rounds on a 9mm glock not a single feed problem, nor with the 50 i put thru 3 different 40's or 100 thru 2 diferent 22's
 
Well, if it was limpwristing, I put an end to it yesterday. I grabbed that glock like I grab my beer can and put 100 rounds downrange no fuss, no muss. Thanks guys!
