Hmm.......no replies, so I'll tackle it.
Most of the info and conversation regarding these matches is under the "Events and Gatherings" section, btw.
There is no formal "safety course" as such before you can shoot at the Tac Rifle matches, but there is a comprehensive shooters' safety meeting before the match. Many of the shooters at the matches are experienced at either IPSC or other shooting game disciplines, so we consider everyone "safe". A very close eye is kept on everyone by the Match organizers and RO's, with everyone taking responsibility for his/her safety and the safety of those around him/her. Any unsafe weapon handling, either perceived or real is not tolerated and offenders will be turfed from the match.
Don't worry...if you've shot IPSC you'll feel right at home at the TMSA Tac Rifle match. This is where you find out that a rifle is more difficult to shoot in a match at close range than you ever imagined.

 The 5-round magazine limit which means more mag changes adds to the interest (and laughter from the peanut gallery, I might add).
I presume that you're asking if you can come up earlier that Sunday so you can practice? That's usually not on the schedule, but if you show up for the working party on the saturday (day before the match) there will be an opportunity to shoot a few rounds and zero your rifle if necessary.
Just bring your rifle, A SLING (important), about 100 rounds of ammo (I bring about 120 rnds), at least 4 mags and some sort of magazine pouches/carriers.
If you have any other questions, just post 'em in the TMSA Tac Rifle thread in Events and Gatherings
