First trap gun

im looking for some knowledgeable input on selecting a shotgun used mainly for trap and other clay sports.

Shotgun requirements:
- interchangeable chokes
-12 ga.


Budget-$2000

Have basically narrowed my selection down to either Semi-auto or O/U

I like the looks of the Browning Silver for the price, but would like some suggestions on good over under as well.
 
You should try shooting any clay target shotgun you can lay your hands on. Most folks will allow you to shoot their guns, if asked.

Buy used for your first few clay target guns. Make sure you have them checked out by someone that is knowledgeable. It is fairly easy to drop $400 to $800 into repairs for a well used target shotgun, so they need to be checked out properly. Once you start shooting clay it can become very addictive and you will likely purchase many during the coming years.

A 680 series Beretta in good condition at a reasonable price is tough to beat in an O/U.
 
Any citori, or 68* beretta will be fine to start. Or just get a Krieghoff custom built and save the hassel of trading.
Seriously the best bet is a browning or beretta and get it fitted to you. nothing is as important as fitting.
 
thanks for the info guys! What kind of price could i be looking at for a fitting? i know it would vary on what needs to be done but just a ball park
 
I 100% agree with NZClaybuster, fit is your main focus, as well I agree on Browning or Beretta, althought Berettas seem to like punching me in the face a bit more. I shoot a Citori XT Trap, it works well for me. 101's can pack alot of kick due to their tighter bore. The Brownings seem to be a bit more opened up, there are plenty of good used browning O/U out there in your price range, even XT Traps I have seen in the 1800 Dollar Range, But as stated be sure it is well looked over ie: Cracks in the butt stock around the grip at the reciever, the obvious, plus look over the firing pins closely, over time the pins can wear out the holes and tend to stick out, then when the gun is opened they can be broken off. Best bet is to find a local Trap shooter that has been at it a while, and have him/her help you.
