First try at casting

if you put just a little bit of synthetic 2 cycle engine oil or copper coat on the block pins, washers, and pivot points it will extend the life of the mold, especially if they are aluminum. apply with a Q tip, a little bit goes a long way and wipe the excess off so it doesn't get inside the cavity/s. it will smoke when hot, so have good ventilation for sure. bonus is the smoke tells you the mold is at casting temp.

I did that! Have a Vulcan S :)

I have cast now thousands of 9mm and have it down to a science!. I just received my 223 mold and 308 HP mold from MP on Monday. Did a session yesterday and it's definitely a learning curve with the bigger 308 mold, couldn't seem to get the mold hot enough (was on the hot plate for 40 min on and off as I was seasoning it. I finally just dipped it into the lead for 2 min and the session improved 10 fold. Here are the results of the two molds.

Those look awesome.. I think you're hooked on the MP .I have yet to even try my new MP mold yet.

I don’t cast my own boooolits, but I am learning a tonne from all of your experiences and wisdom. Thanks so very much for sharing!

Always something new to learn from all of you! In the meantime, my buddy does all my casting …. Some 340 gr booolits that he’s just cast and aloxed up….

And now to reload a pile of them for boooolit blasting! My very happy place during all these lockdowns and restrictions. I’m very lucky.

Very Nice Barney! I started with Alox but I'm i'm really enjoing the Powder Coat, playing around with different colours, stand out at the range!

mixing colours together to get this?

Yes. I tried just white and got very splotchy coverage, same with black. Then someone on the forum mentioned "why not try mixing the powder coats" MIND BLOWN. Been mixing colours ever since. That one there is black and white together. More white then black. I did Tool blue and White and Red and Blue together to get these colours.

By the wrinkle in the bullet it shows not hot enough, lead and mould. I’ve been casting for many years and still learning. Casting 12 gauge slugs the other day I discovered that shaking the mould after the sprue sets up a little fills the mould a lot better.

34 bullet molds, cast 1800lbs of bullets. Still learning. Spray on liquid graphite is great on Aluminum molds to stop paling and easy release.
Have worn out 2 10lb,1 5lb casting pots and 1 toaster oven.(melting and powder coating)
Your bullets look great.

Don't be scared to crank the pot temperature up and start about 750-780f. It will heat up the mold better and you can bring the temperature down when your mold is warmed up and bullet fill is good. Poor fill is caused by too low mold temperature more often than not.
