First try at powder coating

On shake& bake full coated PC bullets the nose dia is increased the same amount as the shank is and if your chamber throat is short or tight to begin with it wont have clearance for the increase in size. Its a pain but you can remedy this by gripping the coated bullets before cooking with a pair of tweezers in a grease groove and just rubbing the bullet nose with your fingers to remove powder...or you could buy the electrostatic gun (about $120 at KMS tools) and with the bullets nose-down in a block, just coat the shanks.

Bam 3 minutes it is turning shiny. I wait 15 minutes at 400F to ensure it adheres.


See how much of that red crap I got all over the toaster oven. Guess that is why you get a cheapy from value village or something.

Oh if your bullets are sticking to the tin foil try parchment paper, it's cheap and disposable. And won't cut you like tin foil will, if you are unlucky.

I went to the dollar store and bought the Betty Crocker silicone cookie sheet cover $4. No more sticking to anything. My duties are now directed towards finding the best route for the 101 1/2 inches of snow that is melting quite rapidly to not flood my basement. Pc is on hold. Still thinking of the possibilities though.

Not the best powder. Start with powders that are known to work like Tool Blue.

When u are quenching your boolits from the mould make sure your water pail is oil free cause then your powder will not stick to them, ask me how I know. Also if you are running them thru a sizer make sure to remove all traces of the previous bullet lubes or the same will happen, experience is a pain in the azz, not?

I wonder if humidity is a factor as far as which powders work all the time and which ones are hit and miss. If you live by the ocean or great lakes then the humidity will be way different than the prairies. I have coated 1000's of bullets so far with Princess Auto's black and blue powders and it works great and other people say it is crap.

If you do the shake and bake method low humidity is your friend when it comes to generating static electricity. Personally I like the humidity to be 40% or less but down here in the states in the summer that's hard to come by so I coat in the house and bake on the back porch.
