Been hunting for three years now but this was my first turkey hunt. Started opening day, called in lots of females but the dominant toms were very very elusive and hard to find even when mobile.
Saw the big tom about a week into the hunt but stupidly got impatient and took a run at him. He escaped into the woods.
Today I was out for a walk checking the game cameras and just happened to take my shotgun with me. Walked out into a field with at least 5 jakes making a ton of racket with about 2 or more females (hard to see without binoculars).
Immediately froze up because they noticed me, as soon as they continued to feed I slowly sat down in the middle of a pathway as I could not move to cover. They were very very responsive to the yelps and purrs I was making and all 5 eventually came in range and I was able to take a 25-30yard shot at one. Dropped dead

Young bugger, 75mm (3") beard with about 1 cm spurs.
