Well got this Tom (first Turkey of my life) at 6:33 yesterday morning exact moment the sun came over the horizon.
I went out scouting the night before, and roosted about 4 birds knowing at least 1 was a tom. Walking up to where I was to set up about 80 yards from the roosts I heard a gobble from on of the trees I knew had Turkeys. So I set up at the base of a big oak tree with another big oak 20 yards away to my right and set my decoys slightly to my left bout 15-20 yards out. After I set up it's like every gobbler in the county was in this bush there musta been at least 5 different birds within 100 yards of my position so I thought that if I didnt get a bird I sucked.
The birds I gave a tree call to let them know I was there, and shortly after that they flew down in the opposite direction. I let out a few soft yelps and clucks an then this hen started calling her face off so I decided not to compete with her and just let out a couple of yelps and clucks while these gobblers would not shut up on their way to her. so 20 minutes or so go by and I let out another call and to my surprise I get two gobbles coming my way so I let out another call and then I hear another gobble 2 minutes later I can't see the bird yet but I know it's coming fast from my right so I turned my sight on and got ready. When it came time for me to see what I was hearing it was 2 toms about the same size. Making a B-line to my decoys.
They're approach could not have been more perfect as they went behind the big oak to my right at that point I raised my gun. I was ready to shoot but they were so close to each other that I risked getting them both, so I waited about a minutes and they separated enough for my to take the bigger one cleanly. Took the shot dropped it its buddy flew up 30 feet and landed 20 yards away and just calmly walked away as if nothing happend... I'll get him tmrw lol
21lbs 9"5/8 beard 7/8" spur the other one looks like it was broken off last year at some point. Got him in Essex county Ontario 2nd day of the season.
