I am ready to purchase a vz58 but am unsure if I want .223 or 7.62x39. I have read that the .223 models have more issues but would love to hear from the owners. I assume I can get a mag well adapter for both calibers. Thanks in advance

I went 7.62x39 for the ammo cost and the claim that it's the less problematic caliber. However I had my first gun fully replaced as it was a lemon and my replacement rifle broke the firing pin first time I pulled the trigger.

CSA and Movie Armaments are both great to deal with and my rifle is running perfectly now.

I try to shoot a lot and ammo cost is an issue for me so I went 7.62x39 for cheaper corrosive ammo. I also wanted a .30 caliber weapon so I can hunt with it too. The 7.62x39 is a respectable round if used within it's limits.

If you reload the cost is likely the same or if you only plan to shoot non corrosive then the ammo cost is more or less the same.

I'd decide on what ammo you want to shoot and let that be your decision maker.

I also bought a 7.62x39 model as I wanted to be able to do more with it than shoot gophers and punch holes in paper, and the cheaper ammo was always a pro. I've put 600 rounds through mine without issues.

There are a couple magwell adapters available. A ploymer one and an alloy one. The alloy adapter requires permanent alteration to the receiver to work, the polymer one snaps into the receiver. There's one guy where I work that bought the polymer one and hasn't had any issues with it. I'm sure there are other's here who have done the same and chime in. I'd be interested to hear how the polymer adapter works with the XCR 7.62 pistol mags myself.

7.62 for sure. I have ran about 600 rounds through mine without any issue what's so ever. If you go .223 and you want to add a 7.62 to your collection you may be looking at an SKS or an xcr. Total opposite ends of the price spectrum. Buy the 7.62 vz now and later when you want another rifle there are so many more .223 choices in the same price range or less than the vz. Also do a you tube search for 7.62 vs .223 it may help you decide.

I think the 7.62 is the way to go based on the opinions of you guys and what I have read. I like the cost of 7.62 over .223 as well. I see canam even has non corrosive which is nice. I had an sks and sold it as I never really enjoyed it. I am hoping the vz58 will allow me to enjoy this caliber in a better package

7.62 is what I chose. Very inexpensive ammo, even non-corrosive. Right in the .22LR price range ($0.22/round) for non-corrosive.

And, for me, it matches my SKS's.

I chose 7.62 for cost and it's a bad ass round. The energy release by the bullet on the target is quite something. I also chose 7.62 so that when I load up by the crate I will have loads of ammo for both my Vz and my sks.
