shot my first wood duck today now to eat her people tell me thay taste bad but i would like to try it before i say i dont like it. so if anyone can tell me a way to cook it that it tastes really good please do tell me
Nothing wrong with woodies, they eat well. We used to slow roast them in a pan with assorted veggies, sliced apples and and a bit of apple juice in the pan at about 250 for about 4-6 hours.
Woodies are "ok" for eating. Not a favorite of mine, but I'm not a fan of dark (sometimes "greasy") meat either.
Roasted like a chicken is the easiest, and will keep the meat moist. I've tried frying them up as we do with partridge, but it didn't work out very well. Being a dark meat, you can use whichever herbs you prefer and they probably won't overpower the bird.
These are my favorite to eat. I skin mine and roaste them whole or breast them and make stir fry etc. I don't have a plucker and they are hard to hand pluck clean.
