First You Get Fast... Then You Get Good!

I have zero sympathy for dogs that chase deer. My buddy was hunting when a deer on the verge of collapse stumble by him and he patiently waited. Before long a domestic canine appeared and my buddy had a heart to heart with said canine.

One dog could never chase a deer to collapse. Is your budy known for telling tales?

I've seen two dogs run a deer until it wouldn't run any more. A friend of mine has a Akita~Rottie cross that hunts, kills and eats deer all by himself. Same dog tore the nuts out of a big wild bore. I'm not sure if the dog killed the bore or if the bore was shot, but the dog survived without any visible damage.

As a side note, this is one of the nicest, friendliest dogs I've met.

Yes indeed a nice friendly dog that rips the nuts off wild boars.

Thanks, I will take senior's pint-sized beagles any time for canine companionship! :p

I am not sure that I would call a dog that runs down deer for enjoyment either of those adjectives "nice" or "friendly" - but then I am just not a dog man (even though we have one.....) ;)

Doug

He's very friendly, but you do have to watch where you go with the snow blower in the winter. Boom, Bang, pweee ;)

This is the story I got.
A local farmer was having trouble keeping this big, mean old bore in his pen, so my buddy bought it????!! The bore gets out of his new enclosure, so buddy is heading for the house to get his rifle as he passes Zeus going the other direction. Zeus puts run to the bore, and has his nuts tore out inside of 100 yards. The neighbor is hollering that he thinks Zeus is fighing with a bear in the bushes beside his house. I don't recall if Zeus was the only one standing after the fight, or if the bore had to be shot.

Zeus is a friendly dog, he just prefers his meals on the hoof.

It is interesting indeed because here in BC if I saw dogs chasing a deer I would shoot the dogs...

And if it is a hunters dogs you could end up being shot yourself, and rightly so IMHO. :)

Just wondering, can you shoot a dog on the dog owner's private land for chasing wildlife? Seems like a pretty gutsy move to me, and down right confrontational.

Only in Canada does an asshat feel ballsy to shoot another hunters dogs.

Vancouver Island is so full of poachers (and those with special status) right now I'd never take my hunting dog out again...it's a Gong show.

In British Columbia you can use a dog to hunt deer but they must be on leash. The only animals they are allowed to hunt off leash are cats and bears.
As Bone-Collector said, these are dogs harassing wildlife on crown land. If Conservation Officers see dogs harassing animals on crown land they run a high risk of being shot. They too have zero sympathy for dogs who harass wildlife.

I live in BC and do not hunt private land because here in BC I don't have too...

I don't care whose dog it is, if it is chasing an animal like a deer I have the legal right to shoot it and if someone has a problem with me shooting their dog and takes a shot at me they had better not miss because I won't...

Damn we are lucky aren't we.:D

Yep, that's mountain justice.

To clarify on my post...

If Conservation Officers see dogs harassing animals on crown land they run a high risk of being shot. They too have zero sympathy for dogs who harass wildlife.

And if your not a CO or an RCMP officer, then what gives you the right to act like one?
Zip nadda zero...what we have instead is someone suggesting vigilantism, which could lead to the dogs owner acting in self defence.

BTW I know many cougar hunters that have had shots fired at their dogs, and they were not running Deer either.

Prove it, show me this in writing.
