Fish Drags Man To Death
Updated: 11:47, Wednesday May 10, 2006

A Hungarian fisherman has drowned while trying to catch a 150lb catfish.

Gabor Komlosy was dragged into a river when he refused to let go of the line.

The 53-year-old's body was later pulled from the Szamos river still clinging to his rod.

The 4ft monster catfish was still hooked on the end. Police in Hungary believe he had been yanked down the bank of the river by the fish.

It had then pulled him through the water until he hit his head on a rock and drowned.

A spokesman said: "When we pulled in his line, the fish was still stuck on the end."

happens to spearfisherman on riding rigs quite often. of course you have to be a ####ign idiot to use a riding rig.....

If I was an old fisherman, I'd want to go fighting a 150lb catfish :D

I have a few buddies who used to dive allot and spear fish etc. or atleast try to. But what the heck is a riding rig? never heard of one.

Thanks

Monty, when you search the net for Gun and guncontrol stories, you find all kinds of stuff.

I have a coulple of problems with the story.
Unless he was tied to the pole, I just can't see him hanging on after death.
Rigour mortise takes time to set in.

then the spear/speargun/shooting line is directly attached to the diver. fish takes off and you"ride it" for a while. usually a wrist loop. very very stupid.

why didnt he tie his rod off to his boat ? we use to secure our rods to heavy anchors on the deck when we went shark fishing back east only ever had one shark hit the anchor in my fishing expierience though

Wow, thats some fish story :D

I guess the fish won that battle.
I don't think so, the story says that the fish was still stuck on the other end of the line, meaning it was either dead, or wanted to be around to prove to everyone that he was the one who killed the fisherman.

Mostly Blues? we had Bulls, and Reefers mostly, tigers and Hammers offshore. never anything really big, think the best went 240# ish. beach was shallow sand flats, 3m max, just made them run harder farther! :D great fun running down the beach after the fish trying not to get spooled.
