New Fishing Regulations Proposed for 2007
O.F.A.H. Key Messages:

* Largest review of fishing regulations in many decades;
* Anglers need to focus on areas important to them;
* Need to copy the O.F.A.H. on responses to assist in the development of our position;
* Some areas have major changes to catch limits and seasons as a result of amalgamating zones;
* More changes to come as a result of major species reviews (e.g. southern walleye, Lake Ontario rainbow, northeast lake trout, walleye);
* A later M.N.R. posting will look at exception regulations. Summary of major changes/issues (check posting www.ene.gov.on.ca/samples/search for exact details).

Provincial Changes:

* Whitefish limit – new provincial limit of 12 (from 25);
* Yellow perch – new provincial limit of 50;
* Sturgeon – shortened season, moved closure from May 14 to April 30, and moved spring opener from June 15 to July 1 (one month shorter season in spring);
* New provincial sturgeon size limit – 190 cm minimum size;
* Sunfish – catch limit of 50/day from no limit;
* Channel catfish – catch limit 12/day;
* Black crappie – catch limit 30/day.

Now if they only scrap the slot size for Pickerel, That was just a stupid idea! Slot size. We get inspected by the MNR fot slot size meanwhile there is a net full of rotting fish floating in the next bay? Bloody idiots!

The one line limit on some lakes burns my ass.There is a bag limit so whats the difference if you use one line or two you are still only allowed the same bag limit.
The MNR are also slowly shutting down our lake trout lakes for winter fishing.I have been told its the cottage assosiations that are putting pressure on the MNR to do this.I dont think this is fair to the locals.Cottagers that are only here for the summer have all the say.
I am not a summer fisherman.I love to ice fish for lake trout.I guess I dont count.
The slot size thing I agree with to some point.Just wish more lakes had a slot size.I have seen people take home fish not much bigger than my bait and complain there are no big fish in the lake.If they left the fish to grow there might be some bigger fish in the lakes.
Saying that there is also lakes where the slot size could be lifted where this law has already done its job and fish populations are back up.
There should also be a slott size on pike IMO.When I was younger you could go out and catch a pike 10lbs in almost any pike lake.Now people dont let them grow over 4lbs before they take them home.What the hell is there to eat on a pike that small after it is cleaned(BONES).Not worth taking a pike home under 8lbs IMO.
WHY DO I SUPPORT THE MNR BY BUYING A FISHING LICENCE?
