Hey gang,
I'm still super new around these parts and very thankful for the help thus far.
My PAL and RPAL apps have been received...just need the cc chargerd and probably 18 months of waiting for my card...lol.

I have never owned a firearm before. I don't really have cash on hand to get a good collection going yet, so was hoping you guys could point me in the right direction. With that being said, my end goal is to be able hunt effectively with 1 rifle.

I'm looking for a rifle that will take down a white tail deer, clean and humane. Again, I'm not looking for the best of the best...just something moderately priced, reliable and efficient at doing its job.

I don't really know much of anything about guns or hunting, so hit me with some knowledge too.

Many thanks! Hope the post isn't too long and blah...thanks again!

If you’re a newb the first thing you need is a .22 rimfire. Plink away with it all summer and then buy a used .243 win bolt action. Always wear ear protection at the range or you’ll develop a flinch from the noise of a centerfire. Shoot 100 grain bullets in the 243 for deer.

Interesting post.

I understand the balance of something that can take a beating and is easy to find replacement parts from. But also later in life spending a few bucks more for something that is also pleasant to the eye and both mechanically smooth and balanced to handle if your enjoying at least a few days per season with it in hand.

I think for your budget look at an Xbolt, or Tikka, and in that terrain the .270 Winchester should do everything you’d need to ask of it.

Your choice of synthetic or walnut, and spend as much as you have available on a good optic. I’d like something in the 3-12 x44 range for that caliber.
