How do people do it? Where can you do it?

Here's the situation, you want to go relax away from the city and fish. You drive out of town, A)How do you pick a stream - national park, crown land, provincial park? So far my research says that if the park doesn't specifically say 'no guns' it's OK. But will the park say 'no guns', or will it say 'no discharge of guns, but carrying is OK', or something else?

When you get there, from the rules I've been reading it's never going to be allowed to carry cartridges in the firearm for transport. But is there any way to consider having the shotgun to be 'use' or such? And lastly, does it have to be concealed, or have to be not concealed? How must it be carried?

Concealed is not an aceptable thing for us Canucks...If you can have a firearm with you carry it as you normally would. In a case, with a sling etc... Is legal to do just that in DT. Vancouver BUT I would caution you to use common sense before attemping it.

Using a Firearm for Wilderness Protection

If you wish to use a firearm for protection against animal predators in wilderness areas, here is some information you should know.
Note: This information applies only to the rules under the Firearms Act. Other laws and regulations may apply. For example:
  • National Parks Regulations generally restrict the use of firearms in national parks.
  • There may be provincial regulations or municipal bylaws that restrict the use of firearms in a particular area.
  • Provinces may have restrictions on firearms usage outside hunting season to prevent poaching.
  • Standard provisions in the Aeronautics Act that apply to people who pilot an aircraft in wilderness areas continue to apply.
The Firearms Act does not apply to devices that were designed exclusively to shoot flares and intended to be used exclusively for that purpose by the person in possession of them.
 
If the pond is shallow enough, I just tie about two metres of 15 pound test line around the end of the barrel (the bead is there to keep it slipping off) tie a hook on the other end and bait it.

It doesn't matter if you actually fire it or not, having it with you is considered using it.
 
Parks suck...Thats why I go else where. To many rules...No dogs, no guns. Hmmm fook that! Those are two of the main reasons I am out in the bush.

That plus wildlife who have learned not to fear humans and are attracted to our garbage as well as the IDIOTS who feed them.

I prefer the real bush. It's a lot safer and a lot more fun.
 
And if there is an 'open season' and that park allows 'em during that season, then you're ok.

But this is all "BC" stuff - and the poster was from alberta. So none of this really answers the question.
 
After some telephone-pinball (me bounced around) I got the phone #297-6423 and in Provincial Parks your non-restricted firearms need to be unloaded, but can be carried, while on Crown Land they can be carried loaded. But the only permitted usage is protection, not plinking. And when I asked about plain sight he didn't know, but it's a good bet that it should be visible in some manner, although there are good arguments made either way ie) 'it's in a case'.
 
I pack a M500 next to my ditch bag when I'm fishing, but I'm in a boat on the ocean, not casting from shore. I have the same sg with me when I'm camping, prov. park or otherwise, but it stays in my vehicle, cased, unloaded & locked. That may be the death of me...but wth...bears gotta eat too :)

I know national parks are a different story, but I refuse to go to them anyway. Not for their stance on firearms, rather I refuse to pay for parking in the bush.
 
Why not keep SG beside you with ammo in a bandoleer sling or a side-saddle? I thought these were criminal code rules? Are they provincial regulations, and thus vary between each province?
 
I endorse the pocket fisherman/shotgun combo made by Ronco! It's a shotgun and a fishing reel, all in one...for hauling in the big ones! ;)
 
Fishing with a shotgun threads, these are always my favorite!

For your run of the mill Rainbow Trout, #4 shot will do the trick.
For something a little heftier like Chinook you'll need more penetration, so I always go with double ought bismuth shot...

BTW, I'm holding back a bit as I know this could easily turn into a 'fish defense' thread
