After some Recent Upgrades to my 338 Lapua Remington 700P, I decided it needed better protection while traveling to the range (and out in the woods), so I invested in a Pelican 1750 rifle case in OD (Spec @ Pelican.com). It arrived, and I was very impressed with the quality of the case. It is way above the my basic Plano 10586 Double Gun Case (Specs @ Plano.com) I was using before.

This is how the case looked before I started to fit my rifle. As you can see it's solid foam, not Pick & Pluck. I also wanted to show how massive the latches are :). I also like the metal around the two end lock holes.

The first thing I did was position the rifle exactly where I wanted it to be in the case. Then I traced the it with chalk, to get a close outline of the rifle.

I used a retractable utility knife, with a new blade to cut the foam. I stayed on the inside of my chalk line to ensure a tight fit. I also used a steel ruler to aid in keeping long cuts straight. I thought this worked quite well :D.

The only things left to do is glue the insert down so it doesn't come out with the rifle (its very snug, just how I wanted it) and wipe the chalk off. Thanks for looking!

Nice fit, can you tell me what mag setup you?

The rifle has the standard Accuracy International bottom metal that came with the rifle.

Where did you snag urs? Wolverine? I'm in the market for exactly that in tan but looking for the best deal especially considering shipping. Setup looks great! Well done!

I found this company in Ottawa (CustomCase.com) and their price is lower than Wolverine. However I bought mine from a company in the US while is was on vacation.

Hope this helps :).

Flip the cutout piece around to hide the lines. Also, a pair of matched combo locks means never forgetting the key.

I don't mind the chalk, plus with a damp rag will remove it. And I like the combo lock idea, however I prefer a keyed lock and I have a box of locks that are all keyed the same so all my travel cases use the same key.

Now, a cut out for the bolt and you're done.

It really isn't a problem, it just pushes the foam up (like the turrets).

One thing I found with my case (iM3300 Storm case) is that the foam on the lid pushes on the scope windage turret so I cut a hole in it where it sits on the turret. It's hard to explain but now the turret sits in the hole snugley. With the case closed and no hole cut in the lid foam, you can feel a bump on the outside of the case where it's pushing on the turret, I felt this was bad for it.

Glue the cut-out slab of foam to the uncut slab beneath it, and you will be able to remove the two pieces as a unit. If you later want a custom fit interior for another gun(s), just get two more slabs and start cutting away. I have several different foam set-ups for my 2 Pelicans, which allows me to switch around and get a custom fit for any gun/gear set-up I want.

Looks Great!
Anyone know where to get replacement foam? I have a similar case(not pelican) and I sold my rifle so now I need to re-foam for the replacement.
