Fitting a USGI stock to a norinco M14 "pics on post 11"

Hello gents,
I just got an m14 USGI Fiberglass stock and would like to fit it to my early norinco m14 (bought in 1992)
I would like to get it to fit flush with the receiver without the unsightly gap.
The sand it till it fits method seems a bit crude.
If it makes a difference My USGI stock has never been sanded before.
Any help would be appreciated

there's VOLUMES on how to do this in the stickies- WHY THE HECK DON'T PEOPLE READ THESE THINGS- that's why they're stickies- quick and easy answers to multi- repetitive questions- now as to stocks , varius dealers might have one or 2 and they show up in the ee from time to time
 
Didn't find the answer I wanted in the stickies. I don't want to fill in the selector switch. I don't need to do the Popsicle trick as the pin touches the Fiberglass stock already.
I was talking about the lugs that need to be shaved down. I was going to chuck it up in the milling machine to take them down.

There should be oodles of room around your action in a USGI stock. Unless it has already been bedded......

You shouldn't have to take any material off a USGI stock to fit a Chinese action. The Chinese action is as close as you can get to a USGI action with-out a selector....

Are you sure it's a USGI and not commercial stock?

Where is the stock making contact that's stopping the receiver from sitting down in the stock?
Does the trigger group lock up or are you not able to assemble it at all?

Yes, it's a usgi stock, I'll take some pictures tomorrow and show you guys what I mean.

geebus I stop giving advice around here and we got guys blowing rifles up with tula ammo , folks talking about epoxy and silver solder for unitizing, no one recognizes a simple short stroke anymore and..... now we have to modify USGI stocks to fit norinco actions......

fak me. you all need an m14 guru around here.

M1A stocks fellas..... you HAVE TO modify the M1A stocks , not the USGI ones(except the popsicle stick/connector area filling)..... it's that simple, don't over think it.
and I'll be one of the first to say, the stickies here suck ballz, put up by folks with good intentions but serving themselves.
I suppose one could start searching through all my posts for the answers to all their m14 problems as it didn't serve a couple folks reputations, to add that valuable info to the stickies where it surely belonged.

So I have an early m14 and I have gaps all over. It will all go together with some force. I don't mind the selector cut out but that darn gap...

Some peeps are quick to point finger and direct you to stickies, but a forum would be slow and boring without questions!

I'm going to guess that your barrel band is "hard" against your stock ferrule.

So the receiver legs are tight to the front of the receiver leg recess in the stock.

The "gap" is normal. It's always going to be there unless you skim bed the action to the stock.

Awesome, I thought my stock needed modification. Do a lot of people live with the gap or skim the bed?

I almost always skim bed the stock, to remove the unsightly gap.

I use fibreglass body filler to fill the selector cut-outs, then skim bed with Devcon, re-paint to hide the differing colours.....

I don't bother with a full receiver bedding on a USGI fibreglass stock as the fore-end is just too "noodly" to give good enough draw pressure to make it worthwhile; unless you perform some pretty extensive surgery to beef up the fore-end.

dude, I've more than paid my dues here, and taught what I know to a few hundred over the years and never really gave a damn about how people perceived me or how my posts might serve my reputation, you don't get where I am today by being "nice" to people and worrying about their "feelings" , but I least I did it honestly and with integrity..... not my fault some folks weren't paying attention or weren't here to benefit.
the stickies were posted by skullboy and hungry.... to be helpful for the most part, but the fact that vast amounts of info that should be in the stickies and isn't.... is a reflection of the self serving reasons, good info by others, including myself, but not limited to me, is not in the stickies.
so we get the same old boring regurgitated bull####e...... and neither one of those two superhero mods are mods anymore, nor are they here helping out the newbs like they did when it served them to do so.

I don't post much anymore because the internet has brought out the worst in me and I have grown weary of it and the need to "socialize" with the firearms community online.
I do pop in from time to time just for ####zngiggles and if I come off as an azzhole, well, so be it :D

the M14 rifle is a passion of mine, one I have been able to get deeply in touch with again on my own terms, without feeling the need to involve the internet and I am really enjoying my rifles now more than I ever have.

it does however pain me to see simple questions guys get hung up on with a pile of different answers, when guys like me have put so much info about this very topic in threads or posts that were never stickied due to other's agendas.
you see, M14 rifle stocks were the SOLE reason I joined this site back in 2006 , I came armed with knowledge and access to stocks that few here had. I also designed and fabricated my own m14 rifle stock molds in several designs, sold a few hundred, have had to warranty 2 in 10 years. So if I'm posting about m14 rifle stocks...... get passed my demeanor and soak up the info.

Thanks for all the help guys! I really appreciate it.
I think I am just going to leave it as is for now. At least till after hunting season. Then maybe this winter I may skim coat it to get rid of the "gap"
