I have a rem 700 BDL,I bought a syn stock for it a rem BDL and it fits ok but it is touching barrel and screw seems to short by the trigger.Everything else seems good.Do you have to cut them down a bit in places?.If so what do you use,a drummel,a file, sand paper.I have never done one before but I would use a drummle with a fine sanding bit.any info would be great thanks.steve

Hard to tell without seeing, does it seem like the right stock? You'll have to sand it where the barrel is touching, are you sure you didn't mix up the screws? You'll have to be more specific, for us to help you. I think you have the right idea how to remove material.

Use a piece of wooden dowel slightly smaller in dia then the barrel and wrap some medium grit sand paper around it. Use that to sand the barrel channel until it fits the action without touching and than see if the screws are long enough.Be careful and work slowly you don't want to open the channel up too much.
If the action is being held up by the barrel the the screws will be too short.

thanks, muchly needed info.after looking closer and using caliers,I found that the wooden stock is a bit smaller at the butt end, this would be why the screw won't fit.yes I think its the right stock.gun is a Rem 700 BDL,stock said BDL on box.It is a very close fit, anyway but I could just get a longer screw and I think that would work.I am going to make same as wooden one, now.sanding with a dowel great idea, thanks so much.At the butt end the cabilers say its only out about 2.56mm.If I am carfull can I take it off with a drummle or shound I use hand.thanks.

material used to make the synthetic stock, what is it? Is this a fibreglass stock or an injection moulded unit, made out of soft black plastic, similar to the ones found on factory Remington synthetics?

If it's the injection moulded type, the surfaces may have to be reduced at both the front and rear areas of the receiver inlet, maybe the whole length of the area. Do the magwell parts fit easily?

Some of these stocks can be real nightmares to bed, there doesn't seem to be any easily available bedding compound out there that will adhere to the material they're made from.

If the bedding isn't done correctly, the point of changeing out the stock will be pointless.
