Interesting. In my experience doing laps, typically the receiver wears and the bolt's parkerizing rubs off with maybe a half thou or less amterial coming off the bolts no matter how long you lap. The receiver seems much softer than the bolts on any gun I have worked on, including real M14's.
I've also never seen a lap job taken so far that the receiver lugs would no longer support a USGI bolt, but I suppose anything is theoretically possible.
