I got suckered at the last gun show I went to and paid $65 for what I thought was a good pair of 8x40 B&L binoculars.

They are badly out of collimation. The see double. They make me seasick looking through them.

Where can I get them fixed?

How much does it cost?

Bausch & Lomb? Now owned by Bushnell, so maybe Bushnell will fix them. They have a repair centre in Ontario that fixed a collimation problem on some Bushnell binoculars of mine. They were a model that has a lifetime warranty so I don't know how much they would charge, when they charge for it. Try their website for the address. You mail in the item with a cheque for a certain amount to cover return shipping, regardless of whether it turns out to be repairable or not. If it's fixable but not under warranty, they'll contact you with a quote to see if you want the repair done. You can say no and they'll send them back to you, or no and they'll throw the item out and not cash your check.

I should think there are others who can do repairs, I just don't know them.

Binocular Collimation

.... Some Camera repair shops can and do, binocular repairs. Also check businesses that repair/sell surveying equipment (Not your local hardware type stores! ) and business that specialize in astronomical telescopes etc. In the 'phone book, check under Instrument makers/repairs. Last time I had set cleaned/collimated was a few years ago, and from memory, the cost was close to $100, but considering what I paid for the binoculars, it still worked out to be great deal for me!( 'Older version, B&L 7x50s) ..... Thanks guys.

The Bushnell repair dept. has had my old set of 7x35 Ensign binoculars already (since February). I wonder what they'd say if I sent them the B&L set too.

And David, that is a good tip too.

Thank you.

I just wonder though if the B&L Legacy 8x40 set I have is worth repairing when I could get some new Bushnell "Legacy" binoculars for around $130.

I might send 'em to Bushnell to see if they'll fix 'em for free and if not, absorb the $65 as a lesson learned.

Oh yeah. I can't remember how long it took Bushnell to fix mine, but it wasn't very quick. I didn't mind because it turned out to be free. Hope you are lucky on the warranty.

I emailed them yesterday about that and got a reply that they were picking mine out of the mail heap and putting it on a repair guy's desk today.
