Does this seem like a reasonable choice to mount on this firearm to shoot at the maximum effective range of the .22 long rifle which is realistically +/- 125 yards or so?

Effective range for what? I've shot gophers at well over 100 yards with regularity. I know several who shoot for groups to 200 and 300.

Target shooting and small game hunting.

The mag range would work but anything above about 5x is very difficult to hold steady when shooting offhand. Shorter distances will also be difficult with a fixed 10x.
I would look for a variable.

I use a 4-12 on my bull barrel 77/22. I leave it on 10x. It seems to agree with my eyes. I snipe stay 25gr and blackbirds with it from 25-75 yards all spring long. Works for me.
I'm sure you'll be fine. Get an a.o. model.
I have a Japan made fixed 10 banner with a.o. i'd sell.

Take a look at the Burris Timberland 4.5-14x 32. It has an AO that can focus down to 7 yards, long eye relief and fairly light for what it is. The MOA ballistic reticle works well for 22’s. It is also exteamly robust. It was originally designed for short magnum rifles. The glas is at least as good as a 3500 IMHO

Go for it. If that's what you have or want. A few years ago me and some buds put Bushy Elite 10x on our 10-22s, and had a hoot shooting gophers near and far. I've moved on to other 10x scopes, but my one buddy still has his 10-22 setup the same and he is lethal with it.
