Fixed 3 or 4 power scope suggestions for .222

A workmate, who also runs a guiding business is looking for a scope for a .222Remington BDL. He is looking for something equivallent to a 1960's steel 3x Weaver scope he has on another rifle (he does not know the model number).

He prefers a fixed over variable power scope. This is a working gun used outfitting on the land and sea in the arctic. It will get knocked around a lot. Most shots will be under 150 yards.

Any suggestions on a current brand fixed power 3x or 4x scope for his .222 if anyone still makes them.

Thanks,
RVR

One of the Leupold FX 4Xs would be a nice scope. I think they go for about $350 or so. What's his budget? I'm not sure, but I don't think any one makes a straight 3X anymore.

Thanks Scott N. I will have him check out the FX. 4x would be fine. I think he is flexible on budget, keeping in mind this scope will be knocked around. He is definitely not looking for S&B priced optics. Up to $500 or $600 would probably be his limit for the scope. Thanks again for the advice.

If he thinks the scope will get knocked around, Leupold is tough to beat for their warranty service. Korth Agencies out of Okotoks, AB services the scopes, and they have a stellar reputation. The warranty on Leupolds is life time and they don’t care who the original purchaser was.

I picked up a Leupold M8 4x off the EE, and I like it on my .308 pump, no problem shooting 100-150yd targets.:)

I really like that little 8" Leupold 2.5x lightweight.

For that .222 and the ranges (out to 150) you suggest it will be used for, I would suggest a 6X.

A used Leupold M8, or a new FXIII, in 6X would be great....the later being a bit pricey. But what a great scope.

I picked up a used M8 6X of the EE recently, it's now on my Tikka M-55 22-250.
