Fixed or folding?

Well I did my phone interview today for my Rpal so am getting excited. I have decided That the 858 is going to be my first rifle. Should I go folding or fixed stock. Which is better and why? I will mostly be using this at the range and as a bush gun when in bear country. Maybe for light hunting in the mountains and all around cheap plinking.

You can't take a Restricted CZ out in the mountains legally for plinking. For your first gun, get something cheap like a SKS. Thats what I would suggest. Shoots the same ammo, and is strong. You won't know really what your interested in buying, until you have been shooting for a bit, and have some solid plans on hunting, or you know what type of target shooting is best for you.
 
I have always liked the fixed stock. Remember that there are 2 versions of the 858. One is restricted, one is not.
 
most folding stocks give up something in one form or another. with the 858 its the cheek weld. Its uncomfortable and wierd feeling. A cheek piece would be a good upgrade to it. I like the function of being able to fold it down to fit a quad or a big backpack etc. but for shooting I much prefer a nice comfortable cheek weld. Handle them both if you can before you buy, if you cant then I suggest getting the fixed stock and picking up a folder later and see which one you like best.
 
Get the fixed stock, pick up a folder seperate. Mine came with the folder, when I decided to go real wood, it was a PITA to find all the metal hardware that the fixed stock comes with. You can find the wood occasionally, but the metal bits aren't sold anywhere, not even wolverine. The folders are easy to find!
 
I actually find the folder more comfortable, at least after its been wrapped with paracord, than the weird looking and oddly shaped fixed stock. The fact that it folds is just gravy.
 
fashion v.s function? the non restricted cz is longer and thats what i run with the factory folding stock. hasnt changed accuracy one bit. i would say there is more function to a folding stock than a fixed stock, and since its a carbine and not a precision rifle it is nice to have the compactness on the longer non-res cz. the restricted cz isnt too bad with the fixed stock since it is already shorter. I have no problems with the factory folder i would recommend it.

I covered mine in parachord too. It still has an abrasive surface but it is not as harsh as the metal. What other options are there?
 
Someone said the fixed stock would be more accurate. I highly doubt that. I have shot with both and I have noticed no difference in the accuracy of the gun with different stocks. Maybe that is not what you meant.

Mine has a folding stock with paracord. That folding stock is so ugly - but in a studly kinda way. I say go with the folding stock. Some people complain that it hurts their girly cheeks, but I have not noticed a problem. I crawl up no the stock and am more likely to get the back of the receiver in my big nose.
 
I owned both. I sold the folding stock as it did not provide a good cheek weld. The folder looks "cool" but other than the look, I did not like it against my girly cheek. :p
 
I beleive the accuracy complaints with the folder stem off the poor cheek weld, not a huge problem with irons but it would make shooting a scoped rifle difficult.
 
I have the folder so it takes up less room in the car.

No issues with cheek weld shooting out to 200m standing and prone.

I keep hearing how you have to wrap the folder in foam so it won't hurt your cheek when you shoot it. I've only shot half a crate of ammo with the folder. I guess I'll put on foam when it starts hurting.
