Fixed or Variable Optics?

Guess I may as well toss in my two bits :roll: My .338 wears a Leupold VariX III 2.5-8x36, the .270 has a Leupold M8 6x36 and my .223 is topped with a Leupold VariX II 3x9x40. (Hey, they all wear Leupolds...coincidence? Not!) The .338 is used for elk & moose in grizzly country so I like the option of low power for close shots and being able to crank it up for above timberline shots. The .270 is for open country deer and the fixed 6x is in no way a handicap no matter how far the shot may come. The little .223 can be used on a 20 yard called in coyote one minute and a 400 yard coyote the next, thus the variable Leupold...KF
 
I have a Leupold Vari-x II 4 x12 that is very nice for the long shots and for checking out the antler size/points/etc. prior to shooting ...when cranked up to full power . POI doesnt change .

I've shot variables for quite a while, all makes.
Have one on my coyote rig for early morning advantage when shooting over bait.
But as far as big game goes, I found the 4 or 6X is fine .
Have a 10X on my Browniing at the moment, and used it at Ponoka this year. No problem getting onto thre running fox at 70 yards.
