I have noticed most if not almost all scopes are variable power. I understand you would want variable for various reasons but I am surprised there arent more fixed mag options.

So my question.
Other then bushnell x10 mildot what are some good mid range cost scopes that are fixed power. 4x to 15x is what im looking at. Thanks.

I have a Leupold FX-II 6x36mm scope on my 308 Zastava LKM70. Impressive brightness and clarity. Not the preferred magnification for hunting in timber. Better suited for more open terrain.

The reason i ask is i imagine far superior optical preformance for the same price. Also durability is increased.

Magnification choice depends on the intended purpose and personal preference. Need to do a comparison to see if there's a difference in image quality between a fixed 6x and say a 3-9x set at 6x, and if the difference is significant.

For example, my Leupold VX-2 Ultralight 3-9x33mm isn't as bright and clear as my FX-II 6x. Each would have pros and cons depending on intended purpose.

They are a bit difficult to get up in Canada but SWFA has the SS series of fixed power scopes in 6X, 10X, 12X and 16X.
I have only seen the 10X but IMHO they are a nice scope for the money.

I have a Leupold FX-I 4x28mm on my 7.62x39 Remington 799. It's intended for a rimfire but I had the reticle changed and parallax set for 100 yards. Basically the same as an older Leupold M8 Compact 4x28mm that I also have. Good clarity, brightness and it's compact.

Not much information about these. Read somewhere these were originally made by Tasco?? Their fixed 10x sells for US$299.95 -

I have a Bushnell Elite 3200 10x40mm on my 223 Savage Hog Hunter. It was about a $200 scope 10 years ago, and now is likely double that price. Good scope, my 223 groups very well with it.

Weaver Classic series comprises V and K models. V are variable, K are fixed power: K4 (4x38mm), K4Scout (4x28mm, 50 yard parallax setting), K6 (6x38mm.)

Made by Hakkon in Japan, though the mix up is understandable as they also made a lot of the high end Tascos. I have one needs repair (had it for over 20 years I think). Couldn't get it done before, as they wouldn't deal with Canadians after the ITAR nonsense, but I hear they're more cooperative now. I guess I'll give them a call and see. - dan
