Fixed power

Zeiss, Swarovski, S&B probably all still carry 6x,42 And 8x,56 fixed power scopes. Their tube diameters will be appropriate to the purpose and are all excellent choices for low light hunting .... With 7mm exit pupils

i run a Zrak 6x32 on my Yugo Mauser...............and I am with the original poster...........a fixed 6 power is perfect for a wide range of work. It has felled many a coyote, deer, and critter...........and with all the different glass I have.........that little 6x32 really just feels right in the field. Its enough power to get the job done at long range, but yet low enough power for fast snap shots at close range if one has to. You dont need crazy magnification for long range (who cares if you can see the color of your targets eyes).......and fixed power is just so much simpler and nicer to work with.....

I have been pondering the same question you are for my next rifle. I chose the Zrak scope for my mauser to make a Serbian sniper clone, historical correctness was the high one on the list for that build.........but my next rifle (an Austrailian Arms .308 enfield), i really would like to find a quality fixed 6 for it........mildot would be nice for range finding i think........

i have shot fixed 8's................and honestly think its a bit too much power out in the feild.........at the range is fine..............but hunting...........meh.........cant say i really enjoyed it.......

just my two cents............will keep following the thread to see where it goes.........

I don't like messing with knobs when I have a shot to make, so fixed power is what I prefer. I get used to where it shoots at different ranges and that's all I need other than maybe a multi-range reticle.

A Dual-X has done fine for that as well.
