Fixing messed up drill and tap

My son was gifted a nice 303 P14 from a friend , over the years he shot it with meh results.
Over the past few months I found a Boyd’s stock for it and was going to fix it up a bit …fast forward to installing a better scope on it and I see the rear scope mounting holes are off. The original rear humps have been machined off ,machined flat and drilled for a weaver mount incorrectly.
Now what are my options on fixing this ? Weld up original holes and re machine and drill in tap in virgin metal ?

You could tig weld them and redrill. Sometimes going up from 6-48 to 8-40 is enough to straighten them up if you have a good jig that will keep the bit where it's supposed to be while drilling halfway into the old holes.

You can also fill the holes with longer plug screws, machine down the excess flat and flush and refinish.

It might be easier to just modify a new base
