fixing up my first gun

Going to try to fix up a gun for the first time.

Gun is a old remmington feildmaster 572.


It's in reasonable shape, but it's missing the front site and the rear site should probably be replaced as well.


The front site looks like just a dove tail type site, not screw in.

The rear site has 2 screws holding it in, but there is also a riser thing to adjust the rear site. I'm not sure how this rising piece is held in.


Can someone send me a link of some decent sites for this gun?


Once I get new sites, I think the gun just needs the wood refinished and metal reblued.

It was a pretty common method to adjust elevation back when, a part form another gun like an old cooey might work.

If the gun is in reasonable shape as you say, I'd forget the refinish and bluing. Those guns are not worth a great deal and the cost of the refinish would not be realized in the value of the rifle.

Best to put the sights back on it and enjoy it as is and not worry about the evidence of enjoyed field use.
