Impossible! You know you have to have at least $1000 trap gun to have fun! And that SKS shooting surplus ammo, it needs to be banned from the range! I see these young kids having way to much fun and they only spent $200 on their guns!

Maybe if you dropped the attitude and realized that all these "FUDDS" have your best interest in mind and are speaking from experience and I might add have wealth of knowledge you could tap into.

We have ALL been on a budget and bought something on the spur of the moment only to find out its limitations and eventually upgraded and wished we would have just bit the bullet.

Oh yea and its way MORE fun when you can actually hit the target another thing these FUDDS could have most likely helped you with.

I guess I have to be friends with everyone on this. I shoot at two ranges. One has a red light and one has a yellow flag. If the yellow flag is up, guns should be empty and open. If the red light is on, someone is in the trap house, or at least you should behave as if he/she is. First ran into the red flag means range is hot, which means hazard due to shooting, at a rifle shoot. Green meant safe or the range was cold and you couldn't shoot. It's just plain confusing. Anything unusual stops me until I know what it means and it pays to ask, that's for sure. I kind of like the idea of red/yellow is stop and green is go myself, but...

I did hit the targets. 10/12 shots that are on video.which when extrapolated to a score out of 25 is ~21. I don't think 21/25 is bad for first time shooting a shotgun let alone a moving target.

And I do appreciate the advice. Its just unreasonable to spend 2grand on this right now. I have done it ONCE!

Also I can't understand why people are so hard set on calling this range stupid, wrong, etc and being so attached to the flag rules. Its also funny that people say the flag would be distraction. Really? After 40 years of shooting ur gonna get messed up seeing a flag? If I went 21/25 with the flag does that mean ill go 25/25 without it?

That's like a professional athlete getting mad their are fans making noise.

I shoot trap with a Mossberg Maverick 88 field! 28 inch barrel with removable chokes. I can break enough clays to have a good time, and the gun cost me $230!

It also is going to be my deer gun this year, and be my backup for grouse, and rabbit next week! Id say thats $230 well spent.

Buy whatever you want, you can always sell it and not lose too much money.

A) The whole idea is to have the same rules for the entire club! It is alot easier and safer if the rules are "universal" I agree. So why would they have different rules, with flags that have different meanings on different ranges in the same club?

B) Things change! Get used to it!

C) If you shoot trap you shoot the clays and don't cry about the flags or use them as excuses.

D) There are plenty of very good trap shooters that shoot at Silverdale. They come to get away from all the fudds with ridiculous rules and regulations that can't seem to relax and just have fun.

They let you load more than 1 round at a time, and you can even shoot with a tacticool shotty loaded up with all the black accessories you can put on your gun!

It's about having a good time!

Why don't you go play in the "tactical" zone. People there might actually enjoy your posts. I found a flag for you.

I have shot Trap at Silverdale before and it seems to me while shooting "singles" (that's one target at a time) you were only aloud to have one shell in the chamber at a time. Shooting doubles ( that's when you shoot two targets at a time) you can chamber 2 rounds. And no shells in the chamber when you are moving from station to station. This seems to be a standard safety practice for all clubs I have ever been to.

Where I shoot any shotgun is welcome as long as it's legal and shot from the shoulder. Shooting skeet with a 14" 870 under the lights is very impressive.

Saying that you can use a tacticool shotgun to shoot trap is not endorsing it or saying that is what I do! How does the simple mention of a tacticool firearm require my posting in the tactical forum! The point as I have already said before is that the rules and regs are not about guns, flags, etc. they are about safety!

Can a mod please kill this thread already before I end up with an infraction! There is way to much Fuddery, and retardation being spewed by what I assumed were fellow gun owners, just looking to have a good time!

I can tell you that the standard at all military ranges for all types of firearms and or weapons systems, be it Canadian, British or US (I suspect that all NATO ranges as well) is that the red flag means that that range is active and shooting is in progress. When you change flags to green then the range is on a cease fire. No flags range is closed.

If the old standard for trap ranges was different then I guess some of you will have to get used to change.

Sounds like the argument about having ranges built in yards rather then meters, its dumb, change is going to happen, get over it......

I don't do this but I was shooting last week with a bunch of guys who though that was cool and I didnt bother telling them otherwise. Guess what? No babies were killed either!

At our club we have a main flag (red) at each range that is flown to indicate that range is in use.

Each trap house has a yellow flag that when displayed means unload and make things safe, there is somone coming out of the house or working on a problem in the house (restocking the birds in the thrower or something similar).

The other ranges at our club (rifle, pistol, IPSC, Cowboy Action etc.) also have the main red flad to indicate the range is in use and then inside the range on the firing line, the red and green flags are used to indicate a live or safe state for that firing line. Red, you can handle firearms, case/uncase them, shoot etc. , the green flag means firearms down, actions open, no handling of firearms period, people can advance in front of the line and change targets etc.

Small distraction, and backwards to everything that I currently know about safety flags and their meaning.

Any flag or a pair of shorts on a stick at any trap range that I have ever been to mean just one thing!

To me, as soon as you see the flag, you make your guns safe because there is a problem and someone will prolly exit the Traphouse!!!! So this is very much a safety concern, another example of people making rules that know absolutely nothing of what they are about! These Trap safety rules are universal and go back to the days when the "puller" was behind the shooter and pulled a lever that connected to the machine in the traphouse, and he released the bird. Can't be any serious Trap shooters at this club, as they wouldn't stand for it!!!IMHO!

I shot trap all through canada and the states, and if you see a flag anywhere on the house, it means don't shoot until flag is removed. You also only load 1 shell in gun unless shooting doubles.

In trap shooting there is a proper protocol for safe shooting, it is done the same everywhere and always has been, it is even more stringent when shooting competition like ATA. For us Trap shooters, breaking the rules jumps out at us, as some like my self have been shooting for 40 years, and know the rules for both practice and ATA. and they are the same. We are not trying to be negative esp. with new shooters, who probably don't know proper protocol, just pointing out that your club is way wrong, and most seasoned trap shooters that I know wouldn't shoot there until they started to observe proper trapshooting rules.

I read and reread I found ONE poster who said way wrong and unsafe.

The rest is discussion around maybe something has changed and some ranges do something different from what has been the standard norm for years. Things DO change thus the reason for delving into the reason FOR that change, maybe it is BETTER. Only through REASONABLE back and forth and finding out what happens outside our own little worlds do we make changes.
