Flaregun Custom Insert Adapter - Who Can Make This?

Well I took one out and tried it......wouldn't ignite.
The firing pin on the center fire pen launcher is quite a bit bigger then a typical 12G firing pin. I've had the bangers for a long time so it's possible they were compromised.
I left the banger at the test site as I wasn't keen on driving off with it only to find out it was a slow ignition! The hit to the primer area was fairly substantial but not enough.
I may pick up some fresh ones and try it in a couple of different single shots and see if I can get on to go but so far it's a fail..... :(

The gun I brought was one of Corwin's backpackers and it does seem to have a soft dropping hammer so I will try another gun and some fresh bangers.... Maple leaf, what's the pin like on your flare pistol and how heavy is the hammer drop?

looks like those are rimfire to me that might be the problem

Like I said it's been a while since I used the launcher but it's got the center fire head on it ( comes with rim and centerfire) and I'm pretty sure it worked fine last time I used it.....
Next outing I will bring the pen launcher with.

Geo, how do the silver adapters work? Is there a step in the adapter that headspaces the flare?
Also I think the ones I have here are from 3 vets from maybe 15-20 years ago.....looks like MEC carries them now.
Who's got the best price in Van for Tru flare bangers?

They're good as long as the flares are not too old. Pen flares are famous for becoming unreliable quickly. I never trust them past the season I bought them. I always shoot off all except the reds as practice rounds for young geos.

I only carry fresh pencil flares.

There is no way to adjust head spacing.

The 12ga flares shiuldnt have much pressure, so a good quality aluminum should work as long as the inside is good and smoothe.

And at least you arent asking if its strong enough to fire a 12ga buckshot through it.

Right on, I'll have to try some fresh ones.
I wasn't wondering if the headspace was adjustable .... More how the adapter worked.

Can-down,
I tried shooting some 15mm centre fire TruFlare bear bangers today out of the modified 12 gauge adaptors and it worked like a charm! As a side note, the manufacturer has a three year shelf life on the bangers I bought. Thanks again for your help. Great ingenuity!!

The silver adaptors are for True flare centrefire flares and bangers. The small adaptor at the bottom is for rimfire Truflares but it is 12 gauge so you have to also use the red 12 gauge adaptor.

geologist,
Thanks for the info on the custom adapters. I had 10x make me some and they worked great.

I'm now all set for the bush. Where a firearm cannot be carried, some bear spray and bear bangers may save the day.
cheers guys!
