Hi there,

What is (are) the barrel contact point(s) for the flash suppressor on a M-14 type rifle? Is it on the barrel behind the splines or is it something else?

I ask because the commercial flash suppressor I have on my Norinco seems to be resting on the perimeter of the crown when I tighten the castle nut. And when tightened, the suppressor's tip is pointing downwards...

Thanks,

At least according to fulton, the contact point should be a machined shoulder within the suppressor, making contact with the crown of the muzzle.

Maybe try holding it in place while tightening (brass rod in barrel...?) I've heard the brits used this method for assembly of silencers (to differentiate from flash suppressors) to align the baffles...

Or even just check alignment with the bore... the body of the suppressor may be crooked, but the hole running through it may align with the bore (if this is the case, what brand of suppressor, so I may avoid purchasing... ;))

Thanks autocrash,

Yes, after close inspection the barrel resting area looks a bit rough. It's not neetly machined, it's merely cast in. I'll try to rectify it on the lathe. It seems straight though.

I think another problem is the bore size at that point of the suppressor; it seems way too big, even bigger tha NM reeming size. I made a .329 suppressor aligment tool and there's about .062 of play around it.

I don't know what brand it is, I bought used and the seller didn't know either.
