Hi folks. Been doing a little hands on research on the flashhider removal and this is what I found so far. When you have the stock off your rifle on the left side of the receiver there are a bunch of numbers.I think Different stated on his site somewhere they are the date codes for the receiver etc.
My first two rifles started with a 3.I'm pretty sure thats for 1993,and the other is a 4 (1994).Back awhile ago there was a thread on how easy it was to remove some of the flash hiders. So I pulled out the stub barrel and flashhider that was left from my barrel shortening tapped the stub for a bolt, locked it in the vise and then gave it a wack with a piece of hardwood and a hammer.Low and behold it came off very easy. The weld had not penetrated to barrel at all just filled up the flashhider holes.Right on.So I dig out rifle #2 and after loosing the castle nut (yes I did it for #1) and hitting it as well off it came. These were not very hard hits.
So the next rifle I received had 4 as the build date.No way would it come off the same way.Still there. So when I attended the Hungry clinic in Edmonton I was able to watch a few people attempt to remove their flashhiders with out drilling them first. When I was watching there was only one person who's hider came off easy and his receiver was a 3 as well. Big smile from a Big man was the result. After they came off easy I turned my gas lock front to rear and it tightened up my gas system so no shims needed to be used.
Hope this helps someone out there.
