Flashholes , from the inside - FYI

Was looking at my brass that I had sectioned to look more closely at stretching and case head separation and noticed how poor some were machined or cleaned up from factory, some not at all , and the Lapua was machined down nicely.

Some of my more critical stuff I de-burr , all of these had not been touched and are in factory condition.

Left to Right:

WIN - R.P. - F.C. - LAP

were these all of the same cal??just curious cause LOOK AT THE LAPUA!!!! so much extra material.. makes alot of sence now as to wjhy my RP brass primer pockets went for a ship and the Lapua are still going strong after the same about of firings!!

Thank you for the photos. By coincidence I was cleaning up the flash hole punching residual on some Remington cartridges with a Lyman reamer today. Yes, you can get a lot of brass out of the way. The Lapua case is clearly first class and not needing reaming. But, the big difference that I notice is the thickness of the brass in the head. Case capacity must be less in the Lapua compared to the others.

When we shot competitively and reloaded thousands of rounds a week we had a electric multi station rcbs case processing unit.
It chamfered, nylon brush trimmed & cleaned the inside of the case neck, uniformed, cleaned and deburred the inside of the flash hole and primer pocket in a few seconds.
Good tool to have ... saves lots of time and increases case to case consistency and therefore accuracy.

Nah, not a small rifle primer....case is cut further away from the flash hole, making the primer pocket look smaller.

Hand grinder(air) with 36gr Norton Blaze disc, then D/A sander with 80, 180, 320, 600gr.

And a lot of patience with a very steady hand.

Punched holes will have the stamping indent and the burrs vs drilled which are nice and clean.
Some Fed and Norma side by side (Browning stamped is Norma). These are fired so a bit dirty.
