flashlight mount for 870 tactical?

I wanted to add a decent flashlight to my 870 tactical, and was reviewing my options. I think the surefire system is a little too pricy for me, and I want to keep my options open on an aftermarket forearm, so I was looking at the B&T Remington 870 rail mount and the fenix universal flashlight mount. Anyone have experience with these, or have some recommendations to look into?

Thanks.

I'd save for the Surefire. I've tried a few different ways, and the best is still the Surefire. I have one on each of my 870s - integrated in the forend gives you much better control. See if you can find a deal on a used incandescent model, and pick up a drop in LED upgrade from Malkoff Devices. The other way is a Magpul SGA forend and either the scout mount or small rail that bolts on.

IMG_0627_zps8b036169.jpg.html][IMG]I got a Mesa tactical barrel clamp with a short length of picatinny rail on one side. It helped clamp my extension tube, and worked well with my stream light. Fairly inexpensive, and is solid. I dig it.

Yup. By once cry once.

GG&G (Tuscon, AZ) have a forearm replacement that puts the rail for the light on the side of our choice. They have a special deal that includes the forearm, mounting ring, and a Streamlight Poly Tac LED included for $105 (US). The light goes on--or it can come off the weapon if you need to use it for something else. The lights are tough (I have two of them). I want to get this system for my Mossberg 590A1 (the 870 Wingmaster has such nice wood). KISS (works for me).

Where's the DIY section of this forum ? The surefire is just a standard old remote switch light moulded in a standard old forend, 30$ worth of jb plastic does the same thing.

I don't think so, but by all means show us how you made it. There is a thread I started in the Gear forum for DIY projects. SF forends aren't cheap to be sure, but I've tried all kinds of mounts and I still come back to them. I find them to be the most streamlined option.

Sorry for the hijack.

rotncore, are these Malkoff drop ins for the Surefire forend reliable? They are rated at 350 lumens in comparison to the 90 lumen Surefire. Is there a lot of splashback with the added light?

Reliable, yes, I'm a light nut so I have 5 different Malkoff drop ins living in old Surefire 6P bodies, zero issues. The way they are built, I have more confidence in them than the stock P60 sized bulbs. It is a brighter light for sure, but I wouldn't say it is a negative for the user. You can get the warmer led option too, which closer emulates incandescent light rather than the pure white if you prefer.

The newest gen Surefire weapon lights are all 500 lumen rated, so the higher output has an application.

The ability to upgrade the light emitter in the Surefire forend is to me a huge advantage. Sure, the upfront cost is a bit higher, but every few years you can upgrade the light output for around $60. And if you factor in the clamp mount, quality light, tape switch, and forend of your choice, the gap isn't as large. If you want to change barrels it's not a pain in the butt. The Surefire is streamlined, and you don't have a bunch of snagging stuff bolted to the front of your gun, and the light is low and not obstructing your view.

Yea, next thing you're going to tell us is you're starting your own company selling weapon-grade flashlights right?

Have you looked at the Elzetta Shotgun Flashlight mount?
I have one on my 870. I also got the QD sling attachment, but you can also get the rail attachment.

Full Disclosure - I'm a sponsoring business member that sells Elzetta products in Canada, so my opinion is naturally biased :)

Count me as vote #2 for Elzetta. I'm running their complete shotgun illumination kit on my 870 (light, mount, click switch on light, the whole nine yards) and am really happy with it. I bought several yrs ago direct from the states and they were a great little business to deal with. Nice to see a member here that sells these products now.

I went with the MOD-c clamp as well (Also from S&J). Used it to mount a Fenix TK15 light on it and it just barely clears the mag tube clamp infront of it.
