Hi Guys,

I was wondering if any of you have experience with flashlights as I would like to get one capable for worst-case scenario night time as well as for my day job as an engineer. I go on construction sites regularly and need a very powerful flashlight (most likely LED) for viewing duct work and other things in the ceiling space. I would not like to pay more than 60 dollars, but I would like to keep it relatively light/compact. Let me know if you have any recommendations.

As a reformed flashlight junkie I wholeheartedly second Fenix -- among the best bang for the buck quality flashlights.

Well, it's more than you wanted to spend but I use a 5.11 ATAC L2. It's a pretty nifty flashlight, with some features that keep it on when you want it on and off when you want it off.
There's also the smaller version, the L1 that runs off a single CR123 battery instead of the 2 that the L2 model uses, with the predicable decrease in run time, and a slightly lower price.

The entire department at work came over to play with it when I first got it.

That said, never used any other brands worth mentioning, but I hear good things about Fenix.

Ive got some streamlight products then i came across the fenix booth at the sportsman show. Im very impressed. I know theres a dealer in abbotsford, i have his card somewhere. Ill look tomorrow. Half price the price as the comparable streamlight. Huge selection of lights, sure to have one that suits your needs.

Not exactly compact, but powerful, the Fenix LD41 is fantastic. It takes 4 "AA" batteries and has a max output of 520 lumens. Very good run time on the lower settings and AA's are everywhere. (and cheap, something to think about instead of lithium CR123's or 18650 rechargeables)

The LD41 runs around the $75 range.

A cheaper ($52), lighter and single AA battery option, the LD12, has a max output of 120 lumens. (decent! with a insane 2h 20min runtime at max on a single AA)

look at UK (Underwater Kinetics) ... they supply industrial lights etc that clip to a hard hat properly
used to be the standard for companies like Bell Canada etc
had an led light from them with a focusing lens that worked great...used 4 AA and was pretty compact considering. have also used fenix and they are fine but UK has a a good setup for job site helmet wearers
