Flashlights on a shotgun

Okay here we go, a couple pictures are a bit blurry on account of the agressive mosquito swarms by the river...

Modlight OKW up top, middle is the surefire M600DF and bottom is the surefire M640DFT. Light body for the surefire heads is a surefire scout with an ariska tailcap. All these lights are powered by 18650

Indoor hallway Surefire M640DFT
(Image looks darker but was very bright in person - camera decided to darken it) It looked very similar to the OKW but with slightly less spill.

Surefire M600DF
Again tons of light flood, way more then the camera picked up on the edges. In my opinion this is the best for indoors.

wow thanks for these. I think they non Turbo may be the way to go. The flood seems alot better especially for a shotgun

Not a problem man,

These lights are expensive and it is good to figure out which one will suit your needs best. Besides you'll probably end up buying both eventually... Both are good options.

At distance is when the non turbo's beam gets dicey - not enough focus to see detail. If you zoom in on the 100m pictures, the higher candela lights make it easier to identify details.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions on this everyone, After lots of consideration and back and forths, I have settled on the surefire 640 Turbo. I think this will offer the best option for the use I intend to use it for.....now to wait for it to go down in price from tariffs being lifted or a decent sale.....boy oh boy they are expensive šŸ˜†

Looking for some info before I "flip the switch" and get a light for my Benelli M4. I am considering the Streamlight TLR HL-X, anyone have some experience using this pistol light on a shotgun?
or the older version TRL1-HL?
Will it hold up to the recoil of 12 guage?
Is there a different, better option I should look at?
I dont want anything with pressure switches as the wires look like they would just get in the way and hung up on things.
let me know what you think.
I checked with a pro supplier about a light for MY Benelli M4 and was told that the light to get is a Streamlight Protac rail mount light. One big advantage of these, OK the main big advantage is that they cost less than half the price of a Surefire while also coming with all the mounting stuff I will need, including the remote switch- with Surefire you just get the light and have to chase around for all the accessories that will allow its use on a shotgun. I know you don't want the remote switch but you might be surprised how well they work out if you give one a try. PM me for a source if you like, you may of course have your own.

Something i will look into thx.

Just a random thought, but when practicing with a shotgun that has an unproven mounted light, I believe that recoil shock to the inner workings of said light can be greatly reduced by removing the battery or batteries.

I've been quite happy with Fenix lights on my shotguns and rifles, they are of good quality, and the price isn't outrageous.

Don't put a cheap light on a shotgun, the recoil will destroy it. I learned that the hard way. The Fenix appears to be designed to handle the recoil.

I've ran a number of lights on shotguns. By far I prefer a wide flood beam. My old Streamlight Protac HLX is having contact issues after years of bush use. Racking the action causes it to switch on and off. I replaced it with a Protac rail mount 1. Unfortunately the SF M300/600 are disco'd and unavailable so went with Streamlight again. The 350 lumens of the RL1 is plenty bright out to 75-100 yards. The Streamlight racker is a great light as well but awkward as a forend, ditto on the SF DSF forend. If the RL1 gives me any trouble I'll grab a 640DF. As for pistol lights on shotguns, the switches are awkward. I ran an SF X300 Ultra for a short while. Excellent light but best suited to pistol applications. The high candela lights are a no go for me. If you've used bright flashlights with animals, you know they create bigger problems than they solve. Animals with large eyes reflect a ton of light back making contrast difficult. In other words, you see the glowing eye(s) but have trouble seeing anything else. Moose are especially bad for this. Since I camp, hike and quad in the rockies I need something for a specific application. A wide flood for excellent peripheral vision is a must. Long range is not a concern. Usually the tree line is no more than 100 yards away and usually less. If something happens I have to be thinking about other people, dogs and sometimes children so that wide flood is critical. At shotgun distance the extra candela and a bright hotspot provides no benefit and some serious downsides for me.

3 different 14" shotguns and 3 different light setups.

- Custom M300 setup with parts from Surefire, Arisaka and Malkoff Devices on a Mossberg 590a1.
- Stock Streamlight HLX on a Benelli Super Nova.
- Custom Surefire M600 with parts from Surefire and Arisaka on a Remington 870.

Second photo is of my current 870 setup.
Just bought a Benelli SuperNova 14". Same as yours. The side saddle; does the pump get in the way? Also, what pic mount are you using?

Pump stays out of the way with a 5 round card. The receiver space for a shot card isn't very large on that shotgun, so a 6 round card may get in the way.
The pic mount I believe was the GG&G one.

Did you have to shim the 590 offset mount at all? I have a similar mount (knock off) and it sits too far in board and contacts the barrel with the forend is all the way back.

I think a SG, is the about the only 'gun' that makes sense to have a flash light. As per..in the bush, non-human predators. In an urban settings, a weapon light is a dead give away to your position.
