After being cheap and toying around with the aimpoint gooseneck, I finally figured out the upper needs to go - A1 style upper is useless for optics.

So I dialed up Armseast's phone number and got a STAG arm upper in three days. Took 5 minutes to swap the upper and the problem is resolved. The Stag upper fits perfectly onto the Colt lower - I ordered the upper with the "extended" feed ramp - it is not an issuse since 9mm has an "external" feed ramp.

Looks good GT. I need to get a 9MM AR one of these days. Looking at the RRA jobbies with the built in mag block in the lower.

They dont, he just bought a flat top upper reciever and then swapped over the barrel along with his delta ring, handguards and FSB and voilla. No matter because the 9MM guns have an internal feedramp so theres no worry about the M4 ramps on the upper he got from Walter.

Ejecting port, door, deflector and ejecting angle ??

It actually ejects further now - I was shooting out in an open range so I did not really pay attention to where the casings landed - but they were definitely ejecting more to the 4 o'clock. I shot it left hand and I did not get a faceful of brass so it is ok.

The really old Gen 1 9mm colt sporter actually doesn't come with the big plastic defector. I used to have one. .

Roger that!

I actually prefer the old school look myself, but can see how an optic would present a problem. I'm surprised you didn't go for the cleaner look of one of RRA's 9mm flat tops without the forward assist and brass deflector.

So what was it that you didn't like about the gooseneck mount?

Anyway, looks good, now you just gotta chop that barrel down.

I keep the 16" barrel for "training" purpose - this 9mm is supposed to be a cost cuttng measures to the ever rising price of 223.

I did my math - at current price, I will make the money back with the 9mm in 6000 rounds. And since I can reload for 9mm, I don't have to hawk at the ammo supply either.

$295 vs $150 - I just have to manage the queer-look :p
