Morning folks. I've got an old 870 Wingmaster that doesn't have the flexitab. I've read about the importance of the flexitab and see that there used to be a kit for it from Brownells.

Are these kits/parts available in Canada?

Do all Wingmasters need them? I've tripped the shell catch on a closed chamber and with a hard pump I can clear the jam. When I trip the catch on a loaded chamber I can force pump it open by hand then pluck the chamber found out the feed the shell from the lifter into the gun.

I checked and non of my 870 parts are flexitab parts...

What do you folks think?

Tac Ord can do the conversion, there is a replacement, or modification to the bolt slide required as well as the obvious. Of course if the gun was already at Tac Ord, who could blame you for having a couple of other "little" things done to it?

Yes, I'm a bad person.

Just to be clear ...

So the flex-tab "upgrade" is supposed to PREVENT jams ? Or allow you to more easily CLEAR them when you do get a jam ?

All my 870's have the flex-tab setup and they will and have jammed if I short stroke em (not an uncommon issue with most pump actions... user error).
Whack the butt on the ground and good to go though.

Point being, I'm still not sold on the entire flex-tab necessity.

I've owned 870s both with and without the flexi-tab, not noticed any difference and never had a jam that wasn't easily cleared. Pump it like you are trying to break it.

I'd agree with this - if you handle the gun correctly, you'll never notice it - if it does jam, and you react correctly, you'll never need it. It simply allows extra room (if necessary) to make it easier to clear. In a stress situation I'd doubt that you'll be too gentle to clear a jam.

That's one of the bad things about the Knoxx recoil reducing stock, it compresses inwards when you do the "smash the butt on the ground" technique.

With pumps I just practice a lot and cycle them like I am trying to break them.

the flexi-tab kit will not be of any value to you until you have a shell try to feed while the bolt is closed. You will NEVER see the value during normal cycling. You have a buggered shell or shell latch on the hunt, and you have a shell surge while the action is closed, you will not be able to open it most likely. The flexi-tab kit was designed to allow you to clear the surged shell.
