I'd assume he is trying to put either a Marvel, Kimber or Colt .22 top slide on his 1911.
Per the question, I am not sure. I am going to say no, it won't matter. Are you using a Colt kit or another brand? I know the Kimber comes with an integral recoil rod system IIRC.

im using the colt conversion, comes with slide+barrel+weird floating chamber thing, recoil spring in proper weight for .22, slide stop and weird bar piece
i assume it uses the recoil stuff from my top end, but i know it was made before FLGR were around, so wondered if it would work with them

I would say that you should try to avoid using a FLGR with the .22 unit. As stated they weren't designed for use with them. The unit should've come with a standard recoil spring guide and standard plug. As well as it's own bushing to go with the barrel.
The thing you call the "wierd bar piece" is actually the .22 ejector. Also, make sure it has the proper slide stop, should be marked "2" on the inside flat. Yes, your .45ACP slide stop will work with it but eventually will start to burr the slot in the .22 unit slide. That is why it has it's own fitted #2 slide stop.
Make sure you keep the floating chamber clean as they tend to get gummed up pretty quick especially if your .22 ammo is heavily waxed. The floating chamber is meant to amplify the recoil of the .22 ammo to simulate shooting a .45ACP.

looks like the slide stop i have has #3 stamped on the inside, i assume that means harder steel doesnt it
ill go pick up a proper recoil guide system for it. the manual i looked up online doesnt list the guide and plug, but i do have the bushing
