Nice shooting and nice buck....we're headed down south next week to try our luck on mulies as well......be happy to see one like that! How wide is he? 7mm?

He's 25 wide, and I was shooting a 280 AI. We captured the whole thing on Video and it was quite neat to see impact and the bullet in flight. I hit him high, and knew it when I pulled the trigger. My brother on the camera and cousin on the spotting scope saw the bullet and impact live and knew he was lung shot and hit well. I wouldn't have believed it the way he ran. He appeared unhurt and went 300yds before tipping over. When I removed his lungs he had a pair of holes in the lower portion of each upper lobe about quarter sized and the bullet exited rearward of the big shoulder knuckle by about 1/2 an inch leaving a hole the size of a toonie.

I've shot a lot of game with the X, TSX, and TTSX and this is the only time I wished for more internal damage.

Oh, and by the way TJ. He was away from the road. ;) I actually spent 4 different days looking at him and 382 yds was the closest we could get. He picked his location and his beds well.

Impact velocity 2300 fps +/- according to ballistic program........it *should* of put him down quicker...but life is full of surprises. ANy pics of the internals?

No I didn't, and am kicking myself for not doing it, but the damage was fairly minimal. You could tell the bullet had expanded, but their was no lung soup, just a neat quarter sized hole through both lungs.

My dad hit a caribou in the lungs with his .300 Win. Mag with Winchester cheapo powerpoints at about 200 yards....nothing but soup inside...no lungs left to find. Me is wonderin' about them premium copper boolits on light game like deer. hhhmmm...

Ya, those big bucks can be wiley....sounds like he was well-earned....congrats again!

You put a tape on him?

If you were the Chuck Nelson I know of, then you would for sure remember going over Lundbreck Falls in a kayak. Cheers!!
