Flint lock rifle

I am a left handed shooter and I am thinking of buying a flint lock rifle. Is it safe to shoot a right handed flint lock if you are left handed?

Why not look at the Lymans? They have left hand rifles. I shot a flinter for a while, and I would not want to shoot a right hand rifle if I was left handed. My wife took a video of me shooting my flinter and slowed it down. You could sure see the smoke coming from the touch hole, and I wouldn't want that in front of my face.
 
Sure,............if the moon is in the seventh house and jupiter aligns with mars.
Seriously if you must shoot a right way rifle wear a pair of QUALITY safety glasses that provide full eye coverage front top and sides.
 
I am a lefty and shoot both left and right handed flinter and percussion muzzle stuffers. If you wear eye protection (you should) it doesn;t make a lick of difference.

X2, in the process of buying a rt hand flinter now, one of our club members is a lefty and shoots a rt hand trade gun, usully places first with it also :eek:

You can order muzzleloaders from the US as the ATF classifies firearms manufactured prior to 1898, including black powder muzzleloaders or replicas of MLs to be non firearms under the GCA. So there is no requirement to fill out a 4473 or a NICS check. This includes in line MLs but not any Mls that has interchangable barrels which may fire center fire cartridges. The only item you may require is an import permit from Canada which is free. And as a non firearm you may ship them any how.
 
"...few original left handed flinters..." Original hunting flintlocks were custom made. If you had the money, just like now, you could have anything you wanted. Mind you, in those days, it was a sign of evil to be left handed.
"...and kits..." Haven't seen kits up here for years. Haven't looked either though.

LOL if you don't mind hot sulphur, flames, and flint chips hitting your face/eye and possibly blinding you every time when you shoot, then yes, it's safe!

I shoot an RH and I still have to wear safety glasses. Hell, I've even burnt some arm hairs with that thing. I wouldn't even fire just the poweder in the flash pan without wearing safety glasses! Do yourself a favour and get an LH model (or learn to shoot with your RH.)
 
Does Wholesalesports in Alberta carry the Lyman Deerstalker flintlock in .50 or .54 ?

Sent'em an email but they must be busy .

This goes for all "Rock-Lock" shooting.
It would be best if you could find a left hand flinter but if not you may have to make due. When you shoot offhand pull your support elbow down under the gun...it will preserve shirt sleeves and arm hair.

I ordered mine directly from Lymans in the states. Flintlocks do not require a PAL nor do you have to register them. The only thing when ordering from the States is you pay for duty and taxes other than that you are good to go. I have orded both the GPR and the Deerstalker from Lymans. If you decide to order from Lebarons, make sure they have it in sock before placing your order. Otherwise you might have a very long wait.

In my opinion, order direct from Lymans and save the hassles.
