Flintlock VS. Percussion for the new shooter

Looking for opinions...I'm not new to the shooting sports but I am new to the blackpowder game. I'm looking at getting a Pederesoli Kentucky pistol but I can't decide whether to get it in Flintlock or Percusion. What do you guys think?

Flintlocks are great, but I would go with caplock anyway with a pistol as its restricted anyway.
For someone wanting to play the smoke pole game, and enjoy every aspect, flinters are fun. Long burn out the muzzle, and a 2 foot torch straight up:cool:
Flintlocks work great , just keep the flash hole clear, cause if its blocked it won't flash:D It will hang fire...
 
Percussions are neat, but flintlocks will get you pretty pirate girls. I vote flintlock, but I'm biased.

My GF got me a flintlock as my first boomstick while I was waiting for my gun licence and I shot the hell out of it every day for weeks on end (U. Student). I actually turned down a summer job for that rifle, it probably cost me two grand in lost wages, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
 
What is it you are wanting to do? Just fooling around at the range and plinking, competitive shooting, hunting? If you just want to play/plink then the flinter is much more fun (IMHO) and impressive to watch! :D A little more cleaning/maintainance and good loading techniques required over caps, but nothing major. Caps would be a little easier/more convenient for hunting. Either way, they are a 'blast'! :D
 
Flintlock

If you have someone around who can help then a flintlock will be ok. The learning curve is a little steeper but its not a big deal. Get some good flints. Loyalist arms is a good source or track of the wolf. I started out with a flinter and I found that following a series of steps during each reload helped. Wiping the frizzen /pan every other shot, checking the vent hole, and making sure the flint is tight is about it.

Flinters can be plenty accurate. I've seen a few competions where the flinter wins. It's the person pulling the bang switch that makes the difference.:)

I can shoot a flintlock as good as a cap gun. At the last shoot I was at, which I won incidently:eek:, the top 4 or 5 spots were flint guns. One of the reasons is probably that the more serious shooters tend toward flint guns.
Remember..."Nipples belong on a woman not on a man's gun!!" :p
