Flintlocks

Are Lyman flintlocks quality guns? What sort of powder is used with them in terms of black powder? Im putting together an order for Hillfolk.

The Lymans were generally well regarded a few years ago and I think still are though haven't had much experience with them in quite a while.

Generally you want to use 2F powder for most muzzleloader rifles thou some people have good success with 3F in .50 and smaller.

You also need some 4F for priming powder. A pound will last you 10 or 20 years.

I use 3F in my .50 cal TC flintlock and in the pan as well. It goes bang every time. The trick is to fill the pan up to just below the touchhole. And yes, Lyman's are good guns.
